Language Exchange Ireland @ Turks Head

Join us @ Language Exchange Ireland - practise and improve your Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian, German, Chinese, Polish, Japanese and English while meeting new people!

Set up like 'speed dating', you will sit always opposite a native speaker of the language you are learning. You will speak English for 5 minutes and then the other language for 5 minutes and then move on to the next table. It is a great way to improve your language in an organised and easy going manner. It is also great for networking and meeting new people. The cost is €5 to participate which includes finger food. The exchange caters for all levels, whether you have just started or are fluent you can benefit.

Language Exchange Ireland has been running since March 2012 and the average attendance is between 60 and 110 people. Meet-Up is only one of the places the events are advertised so the numbers do not reflect the turnout. In 2013, we had over 3,000 people attend the events.

    Hey there, have a question:

When you move on to another table to engage with another speaker, will it always be a native speaker of the language you wish to learn? I'm hoping to improve my spoken Japanese, which is understandably a less common language than one such as Spanish or French. Will I be able to engage with Japanese speakers throughout the evening?

What I'm really asking is whether I'll ever be sat beside someone who is a native speaker of another language besides Japanese. I have absolutely no problem helping others out with their English, though! My M.Phil is in Linguistics, after all!

Hi Ben, thanks for your comment. You will always be sitting at a table with native Japanese sections. The sections are broken into languages. One area of the pub is for Spanish/English, another for French/English etc. You are always sitting opposite a native speaker of the language you are learning. Hope to see you at an event soon. B
