C.S. Lewis, Bill Bryson, Robert Harris (novels about Cicero), Athanasius, John Wesley, Lesslie Newbigin
I love talking with people who see things differently than me. I am also often the only Christian in the group, and I find that engaging. I enjoy a good drink with good friends. I also enjoy a challenging and civil conversation.
One of my favorite conversations that I helped create was a debate between Richard Hays (chair of the Bible department at Duke Divinity School and now Dean) and Bart Ehrman (chair of the religion department at UNC and agnostic) on issues raised by The Da Vinici Code when it was coming out as a movie. We packed the house with over 400 people as Hays and Ehrman debated the reliability of the Bible. The debate was intellectually rigorous and had a fun mix of Duke UNC rivalry.
I'm actually not a fan of beer, but I love a good wine. Some friends recently introduce me to the Cline vineyard. I've never ordered a box of wine before, but I'm tempted!
I love talking with people who are different than I am. I'm the pastor of Sycamore Creek Church(.org) and began this group with my good friend Bill, an atheist. As C.S. Lewis says, there's not much better than good friends, food, and conversation.
