Ruidoso Loop Ride

  • June 14, 2014 · 8:00 AM

Kmart parking, KSU at 8:30am

Okay a bit of an update. After some consideration, I'm going to shorten the ride some, didn't realize it was going to 329 miles! Even my butt was starting to ache lol.

Ruidoso, Capitan, Lincoln, Ft, Stanton Ruidoso and Cloudcroft.

Leave Las Cruces to Tulie, gas up at the Shell station there and pick up another rider. On to Ruidoso, take the highway to Capitan, stop at the Shell station for a rest and or top off as need at the Apache Ski run road, continue to Capitan and have lunch at the Smokey Bear Cafe, ride into Lincoln and mess a round there for a bit. Then double back from Lincoln back through Ft Stanton and back into Ruidoso. This will cut the mileage back quite a bit.
Once we get to Ruidoso, we can stop at a predetermined place for a quick break and gas if anyone needs some. Then on to Cloudcroft and into Alamo. There is an Exxon station at the bottom of the mountain for gas for the trip home.

These are the temps being forecasted (as of 6/11) for Saturday.  Las Cruces, 99, Alamogrodo, 98 and Ruidoso 85, 0% rain chance (so it says) as with any ride,  just be prepared, water, rain gear, etc.

Looking forward to seeing some of you on the ride!

Okay what a ride, Thanks to Lynn and Anthony and my buddy in Alamogordo for doing the ride. I was quite surprised when Lynn and Anthony pulled into the Kmart parking lot. Guess Mike couldn't make it. The ride in itself went very well. The morning make for a very pleasant ride to Capitan. We had lunch at the Smokey Bear Cafe, then proceeded to Lincoln for a bit. Anthony and Lynn were needing to get back to Cruces so we parted there. Ed and I went ahead and did the original loop ride. The total mileage for me when I got back was 322.2 miles. Whew, long ride and I wasn't as sore as I thought I would be lol, just tried. Reason I only gave this ride 4 stars is for two reasons, Smokey the Bear Cafe wasn't that great, I would advise eating in Ruidoso for this ride again. Second reason, the winds later in the afternoon around 3pm got kind of rough though manageable. I hung out with Ed for a couple hours in Alamo until the winds died down some. Got home around 8pm. It was a good ride.

Ride is still a go. Just talked to my friend in Alamo, he will be waiting in Tulie. LET'S RIDE!
If Ruidoso and area get the rain they supposed to get today, the ride Sat should be pretty nice then.

    Alamo 98
    Ruidoso 83
    Capitan 86
    Cloudcroft 83

10% chance of rain in Cloudcroft
Remember the day's highs usually don't occur until late afternoon.

Full Moon Friday the 13th is this week!

The last one that happened was in October of 2000. After 2014, there won’t be another one until August 2049.
    This is the Honey Moon.

    Hi Bill and all,

Laura has taken the time to do some look-see at this ride....329 miles, 6.5 hours minimum. Have you seen the prediction of temps in Las Cruces and Alamogordo? In the three digit mark....that is 70 (x2) miles across the Tularosa Basin....just saying...c

Remember these rides are not written in stone, if we want to shorten the ride we can, No biggie. As far as the temps are concern, the heat will be on the return trip home. Reason why KSU at 8:30am to beat the heat.

This is the kind of ride I am looking for. However, currently I am scheduled to be out of town next weekend. If that changes, count me in.
