Retrievable Anchor Practice

Every now and then we run into a situation or descend a canyon that either requires or for some reason should require retrievable rigging. Retrievable rigging is considered an advanced method and should be treated and respected as such.

This event will focus on rigging retrievable anchor systems. It would also be nice to have some sort of group discussion regarding when and/or where everyone thinks a retrievable systems should be used.

Please bring whatever method(s) you would like to practice and/or share with the group.

Retrievable methods are probably another tool we have in our toolbox that may not get used very often. Practice events are great refreshers to help keep up on these skills we don't use often. Rigging and/or using retrievable methods incorrectly could have catastrophic consequences.

We have 6 stations (for methods that require larger objects to wrap around, there should be plenty of things in the warehouse to use) so this event is limited to 12 people.

This event should last about 2-hours.

Again, this is a practice event... This is not a class or course etc.

*Please bring your own gear to rig with.

Good hands-on practice of a variety of techniques. Still not so sure about the fifi elastique though :-)

@Todd... Bring your standard canyoneering gear... We'll have rope and some extra gear if anyone need to borrow to rig with... This practice event will pretty much be based on how everyone wants to do things... we'll discuss format when everyone gets there tonight... If you have any methods of your own to share and show the group that would be cool... I'll have a white board set-up for everyone to write down there method(s) so others can see what there is, practice and ask questions...

This is my first time doing "Canyoneering rigging". What gear should I bring? - I have a lot of rappelling / rigging / rope access gear and hardware, as well as completing CMC Rescue's Rope Rescue Technician I / II class. I just want to be prepared. Thank you!

Doug, not sure what everyone else will bring to practice, but I typically use either the Macreme, CEM or one of two different 2-ring retrievable webbing setups. I'll probably also practice rigging the Omni-sling, releasable stone knot, retrievable autoblock and hopefully add discussion with the group on the fife elastique...

What types of retreivable anchor systems do you anticipate practicing?

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
