“ They are a nice group of people. A few of the participants - Mandy and another lady with dark hair and Carlos all sound like they have a lot of experience workshopping. That's a good thing. For me, it's encouraging when people try to write. Creative writing is difficult, often frustrating, and sometimes a lonely experience. Having a regular, supportive environment is a great thing. ”

“ Drake has a clear mission: to "give back" to us would-be writers. He more than accomplishes this with these writing classes (well, I felt this was the case with the two I attended) with exuberance, and a sincere humility and guidance not often associated with a published author but with the humility and guidance one expects from a trusted friend. If you want to become a professional writer, of any genre, then Drake is your man. ”
— Joseph A. on Jul 4, 2012.
“ I have been attending Drake's class for six months now. I recently found myself working on some revisions in an ongoing project. About half-way through an 80 page manuscript I realized how influential Drake's classes have been. I am able to look at my own work with a more critical eye, and have been able to see how his instruction can be used to make my projects better. ”
— Robert P. on Jun 20, 2012.
“ I think this class is an eclectic mix with everything from beginning to advanced writers in every genre, as well as editors which allowed for several points of view to be shared. ”
— Hailey on Jun 20, 2012.
“ I've been to six classes so far, and I'm nearly frothing at the mouth for the rest! One class a month has become an exercise in patience. The information from Drake's writing classes exceeds any other single source I've found in terms of quality and clarity. To get advice, explanations and tips first-hand from an award-winning, published author -- for free at the library! -- is amazing. It's not only about the craft of writing; there are excellent side discussions of the realities of the publishing industry, as well as needing to love what you write. I'm hesitant to take paid writing courses from others after this, because I fear they may not measure up, if they could even teach me something Drake hasn't. (Well, genre-specific courses outside of sci-fi/fantasy might prove useful for writing in other genres.) I would highly recommend anyone interested in writing for publication, or just interested in writing better, to take a class from Drake if they ever get the chance. ”

“ Very cool, can't wait for more. ”
— Jeremy on Apr 2, 2012.
“ This was my first meeting. From the show of hands, there were quite a few other new members as well. Mr. Drake's information was delivered professionally and with whit. The planned format for open discussion was 30 minutes prior, 1 hour for the class, then another 30 minutes open discussion. Comments and questions are good, however, I wished the already active members of the class would have let Mr. Drake teach his class and save their personal comments that supported his teachings for the 30 minutes open session he had scheduled at the end. As this was my first meeting, I'm looking forward to getting to know the group. ”
— Mary B. on Apr 2, 2012.

He's a goldmine, and he's very up front and willing to share what he knows. I appreciate the time he has taken and continues to take in putting these classes together, and in teaching them. I would recommend his classes to any of my friends. Thanks for everything, Drake. See you next time. ”

— David S. on Nov 22, 2011.
“ Drake was very informative, witty and charming. He openly drops his knowledge and experience at your feet. I loved that it was more of an open conversation than a lecture. Although the room was full of others Drake managed to make it feel like a sit down with an old wise friend(ego boost, your welcome and deserving). It felt like a safe place to open up and voice your own ideas and questions without feeling vulnerable nor judged. I adored that Drake was able to easily transition, go with the flow and even engage in some bits of banter that kept the meet up alive. Thank you kindly for your time, tolerance and wisdom. You would definitely be the good twin. ”
— susan H. on Nov 21, 2011.

“ Drake's classes are fun and informative. His honesty and humor keep the pace fast and the content relevant. He has inspired me to kick my own dormant writing career back into publishing mode. I was coordinating a local fan convention, when Drake was recommended to me as a possible panelist, and he made everyone a fan. ”

— Bryan F. on Oct 12, 2011.
“ I've attended several of Drakes classes and have found them all to be incredibly informative as well as highly entertaining. Drake is a wonderful speaker who has a good grasp on the subject matter and presents it in a way that is easy to follow and comprehend. His handouts are great and are very useful tools. Drake peppers his classes with real life experiences and advice on all aspects of book writing and getting published. I highly recommend Drake's classes to anyone who wishes to enhance their writing and just maybe get their work published. ”
— Debby M. on Oct 12, 2011.
“ An enjoyable and engaging class. Good audience participation and excellent interaction with Mr. Drake who was clear and knowledgable in many areas and freely willing to admit lack of experience in others such as writing successful query letters. For novice or aspiring writers the information was directed and clear with examples to clarify further. For more practiced writers the information was an excellent review and refresher reminding us of the importance of craft and never straying too far from the reader's perspective in our work. ”
— Ted M. on Oct 10, 2011.
“ The class is fantastic. Mr. Drake really knows the craft of writing, but even better- he knows how to share it. ”

— Amy on Jun 22, 2011.
“ Drake's latest work shop, "Point of View, What's the Point?" involved a myriad of useful information for writers in every genre. Drake, a layed back guy whos dress and demeanor are as organic as the way he presents his information, offered much more than POV. With plenty of time for questions, Drake shared invaluable information; trade secrets from the highly competitive book publishing industry such as whether to self-publish or get an agent. He offers a no BS approach to the business, what sells and doesn't sell, all in an easily comprehensive form. Cunning Drake will keep me, a strictly non-fiction writer, coming back to devour what he serves up next. "Write every day." "No one wants to work to read a book." "You want your readers to forget their reading a book." "When you read your stuff you should be blown away." These are just a few of Drakes priceless pieces of advice for writers. Thank you Drake! See you at your next class!!! ”
— Alison M. on Jun 14, 2011.
“ Good class for writers interested in taking the next step. ”
— Holly on May 25, 2011.
“ I like this group and as I said above, I look forward to taking other classes by Drake. ”
— Elisabeth on May 25, 2011.
“ Mr. Drake has a great down to earth style for teaching and recommending ways to write. He lacks any pretension and is the perfect balance between published/successful and new author. His strength is his clear message of "This is the way I've been successful, take what you can from it" is a refreshing take on teaching the craft, rather than the beaten "This how to do it in six easy steps." I plan to attend and converse with Mr. Drake at many more creative writing meetings and you should too. ”
— chris on May 15, 2011.
“ Maxwell really has a great perspective on world-building...He shared his strategies for creating not only believable but interesting worlds with barbed hooks that will stick in the readers mind. The description of his outlining and pre-writing work was inspiring. I'll definitely read his first book before the next meeting to see how his advice looks in finished form. ”

— michael s. on Mar 7, 2011.
“ Awesome class. It really goes into the depth of how to get things done when it comes to the writing world. Drake is an awesome speaker and I would pay to see more of his classes; he puts it all into a language that's easy to understand, and you always walk out in the end at least knowing someone you didn't know before. Great advice and great personality, I recommend any aspiring (or published) author to check out what he has to say. ”
— Ariel B. on Feb 21, 2011.
“ Great class, lots of helpfull information! ”
— Linda B. on Feb 21, 2011.
“ "Plot, Are We There Yet?" was straight to the point. Basically a free class to learn thing you could read about in a twenty dollar book but without all the author fluff; clearly a bargain. Drake was charismatic and also offered good advice on organizing ideas, something my cluttered mind definitely needed help with. ”
— Ashleigh on Feb 13, 2011.

“ I have a question; where has the idea that speech tags are to be eschewed come from? Likewise the notion that adverbs ending in "ly" and gerunds ("ing") are anathema? These are all part of a writer's toolkit. Who has been responsible for the dissemination of the concept that these are "children of a lesser god," so to speak? ”
