Double The Fun Happy Hour

  • Mar 25, 2013 · 4:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Who says Monday has to be the low point of the week? Join into a new idea with LVSS. We're having a series of Double The Fun happy hours, with paired events occurring at two places at the same day, at the same time. They are posted separately, so be sure to sign up for the one which is best for you. Many will be "no host". If fewer than four sign up, a location will be canceled. Each site will be limited to ten though, unless someone is willing to take on the position of "host" and is comfortable with a larger group.

Please be sure to update your RSVP if your plans change.

Was a fun time! Good conversation. Looking forward to next time.

It was another great Meetup, I'd say overwhelmingly so. This was an experiment and my opinion is that when a Meetup group exceeds 8 people that a second host should volunteer to help out because many first timers need help about our Meetups and 1 host can't do justice for giving out the information that would encourage the first timers to return. Also some people get confused between 2 different locations on the same night, but we did accommodate all those that showed up.

As close as I can come to a valid count is reflected in the updated attendance list. I added Irene and Parviz. I also removed Louise. I could have missed some one or two but 18 is my final count.

Gotta tell ya, that's not bad! Not too long ago, a host for an event went to entirely the wrong place. They'd had one place in mind, but set it up for somewhere else. I've seen comments on many occasions, "Oh, I went to the wrong one", not because there were parallel events posted, but because there's more than one Big Dog, Gordon Biersch, PT's etc and people just didn't pay attention. That's why I'm SO specific, (look at our venues, you'll see what I mean) but it is what it is.

Some of you are too new in the group to know how/when/why the Double the Fun idea began. I live all the way in the far SE. I was frustrated for the folks in the NW. I wanted them to have things to do, wanted to encourage their participation, but had no familiarity with the areas at all. I posted whatever I came across, wherever I could find it (I spend hrs weekly researching for the group). Not much response. Then I came up with this concept, a pair of happy hours. I picked places that were established chains, but which didn't have so many locations that people would be confused. I'm more than a little obsessive when it comes to disseminating information, so each site doesn't just have the address, the name of the site indicates which one it is. I called each location to get the times of their own happy hour. I've learned that no matter how much information I give, I can't control what people think they're reading. Additionally, some folks belong to dozens of groups, and mix them up.

I think it is a great idea Marsha. I originally signed up for the one in Henderson and later found the one in the NW so I canceled for Henderson. If someone does get them confused, it shouldn't be a big deal, at least they got to meet up with some new friends. I even met a friend I worked with over 15 years ago. Otherwise, I would have got up and mingled a little more then I did.

Thanks Sheryl. I firmly believe that there are hundreds, if not thousands, of senior singles all over the valley who have no idea where or how to find others in a situation similar to their own. They get frustrated and become increasingly isolated. There's very little for "us", and that's why I've been so adamant that THIS group not be a clone of the other singles' Meetup groups.

I'm Sharon, first time tonight. I feel it went very well. We had about fourteen people. The restaurant pulled tables together for us and everyone was talking introducing themselves to others, very friendly group. Tom did a great job of making sure everyone was comfortable and included. I heard one person say they signed up for the wrong Meetup tonight by mistake. We did have about five or six new people.

Wow! Look at you! Without that pesky limit, you have 15, and that includes people who've been to both South Point and M with me, so they can tell you all about it! Ya'll have fun now, ya hear!

Tom... you removed the limit, but that didn't take care of Ron, so I did using Tools, edit RSVPs.

Tom... I didn't bother asking you formally about hosting this because you ARE the group's organizer. Don't forget that you can adjust (or entirely remove) the attendance limit as you see fit. 4-10 was intended for "no host" situations.
