September Meeting

Join us for an evening with Jessie Humphries as she discusses Pitching to Agents & Editors.

JESSIE HUMPHRIES, author of the young adult contemporary thriller KILLING RUBY ROSE (out now) and the forthcoming sequel RESISTING RUBY ROSE (out October 2014), is a Full-time Mother, Part-time Attorney, Half-witted Writer, and a Full-blown Lunatic. Some people like to call her a B-Word...for all kinds of different reasons, though she likes to think most of them have to do with the fact she’s a Book writer, Beach lover, and a pretty good Baby Momma. She is represented by the fabulous Sarah Davies of Greenhouse Literary Agency.

Jessie will be appearing at the Vegas Valley Book Festival October 16th-18th, 2014.

See the video trailer (it's worth it) for her latest novel Killing Ruby Rose - Video

Just a thought on "Stealing from other writers"
Most of us have stopped a colleague/friend in mid-narration, saying "If you keep talking, I'm going to steal it!" And have been warned, ourselves, by these same writers.
I think it was Aeschylus who said there are only seventeen plots for the human condition. (I'm sure that's paraphrasing), so it seems that sooner or later, we're going to plot something identical to what some one else is plotting. Or use some one else's idea so well and for so long, that we forget where it came from.
From what I heard during her talk, Jessie Humphries not only warned her friend about adopting her good technique, but got permission to do it.

Jessie Humphries was an example to us all for her well-organized speech.
I really appreciated hearing how to create a "Modular" pitch that can be modified, on the fly, depending on who you're speaking to, and where.
    Informative and entertaining. Thanks, Jessie!
We arrived early and sat with VERY convivial people we'd never met before. Senendippity-doo-dah!
    Thanks, Scott and Harvey!
    Good to See You!

This was my 2nd meeting and I appreciate all the work that goes into the organization and presentation of these fun get togethers. Jessica Humphries was informative and entertaining and I am grateful that she is so willing to share her experience with others. I am looking forward to the next one. Thank you.

I did appreciate the speakers honesty about using another person's material and also that she would steal mine or anybody's if it was good. I did not appreciate some of the jokes in the beginning-they were not respectful of marriage or particularly, of her husband. I did enjoy the information and very much appreciated her time and effort to help us all achieve, as she has evidence of doing! Many Thanks!!

Looking for a small group of fiction writers (preferably literary fiction), who are serious about publication and would like to exchange helpful criticism bi-weekly.

Congratulations on winning the t-shirt. Glad it was fun. Barb Wolfe e-mailed me that the speaker was "well spoken and entertaining." Too bad I missed the meeting.

I am disappointed that I can't make it, as I am going out of town and will be getting ready for that. I do hope to make the October meeting. Hope you have a great turnout and meeting!

I will not be able to attend this week as I have a friend in town for a conference. Looks like a very good topic, though. I'm sorry I'll have to miss it.
