The Las Vegas Writers Group Message Board › A couple of policy clarifications
Las Vegas, NV
Activity policy: On average, we attract about thirty new members a month. We drop approximately that same number from our roster every month for lack of participation. In other words, it appears that we have reached parity; our membership having stabilized at about 350 “active” members.
“Active participation” is determined by one simple factor: the number of times a member logs onto the LVWG website. To maintain active membership, you must log in at least ONCE every five months. If you don’t, your name will automatically be dropped from our roster. Without this policy, our membership list would grow out of control with people who have lost interest or have left the city.
Message Board policy: we try to limit posting to those issues which have a direct bearing on our membership and mission (to help our members improve their craftsmanship, and achieve their publishing objective). The board is not intended for self-promotion and/or advertising (please save that for the networking portion of our meetings); although we expect our members to post special-event information – such as book signings, readings, and seminars – as long as they don’t abuse the privilege. Everyone, it seems, has a blog they want to promote, or a hot-button issue they want to expound upon (healthcare and politics being the most popular); so those posts are deleted as quickly as possible.
