Terrain Description: Mostly steep class 1-class 2 with occasional use trail. Class 3 possible on ridge between Boundary & Montgomery
Approximate Hiking Time: 7-9 hrs
This is a climb to the tallest mountain in NV and its higher California neighbor, Montgomery Peak. The route is a steep Class 2 climb with occasional use trails up to Boundary, then a class 2/3 traverse over the ridge to Montgomery. We will be leaving early and setting a reasonable pace. Participants should be able to maintain at least 1000 ft/hour ascent rate over off-trail terrain.
The plan is to leave Vegas around 6 PM Friday, and drive approximately 4 hours to camp at the Trail Canyon TH. We will begin hiking early around 5:00 am, complete the climb, then drive back to Las Vegas Saturday evening. Anyone wishing to leave earlier can also meet us at the campsite on Friday night.
Both peaks are on the LVMC's Classic 50 Peaks and it is also on the Sierra Clubs DPS list.
**A high clearance vehicle will be necessary to get to the trailhead. **
