This is a trip to summit three desert peaks located just southeast of Barstow, CA. East Ord (6168') is on the the Sierra Club DPS (Desert Peak Section) list. Ord Mountain (6309') has over 3000 ft. of prominence and is the high point of the Ord Mtns. Rodman (6010') has over 2000 ft. of prominence. These peaks are located quite close to each other. It will be about a 2.5 hour drive from Las Vegas. There will be quite a bit of driving on dirt roads, so we will need high-clearance, preferably 4WD vehicles.
The plan is to leave Las Vegas around 9:30 am Friday morning, and hike 2 peaks (probably E. Ord and Rodman) Friday afternoon. Rodman will be done as a hike along a dirt road, and we will do it after dark. Bring headlamps!
We will camp somewhere in the area (primitive camping), then Saturday morning we will hike Ord. We will get a fairly early start as I have to meet my family near Barstow around 12 or 12:30 pm Saturday as we are going to Disneyland! We will coordinate carpooling as the date approaches.
If some wish to just join for Ord on Saturday, that is a possibility.
