Salvete! Scientia potentia est! Knowledge is power: this group is a fantastic and free opportunity to learn the language, history, and culture of the ancient Romans. Empower yourself with the kind of knowledge our founding fathers possessed and applied to the creation of our government and way of life. If you are American, you have a Roman heritage. Latin is not dead: it is immortal!

We are currently a small group meeting in NW Portland on Sunday evenings and possibly other days. Chad, the group leader, has his M.A. in the Classics and has experience in teaching Latin to learners of all ages, from middle schoolers to retirees. All ages and experience levels are welcome! We are focusing on Wheelock's Latin, an introductory text book written primarily for advanced high school and college students.

Pick up a copy of Wheelock's Latin, any beginners text, or any Latin author and come to one of our Meetups to share in the joy, challenge, and reward of the Latin language.

What members are saying

Ya'll should come out to learn why "ya'll" is an accepted conjugation (from the Latin "conjugatus") and learn to read what the ancient scholars had to say about life - ...

The opportunity to learn a wonderfully rich language from not only the poets and writers of the time but a top notch instructor of our time is something that one should not miss.

“Latin was required in jr. and high school. I did't appreciate the language at the time, but still use it for word origin and meaning. I have a lot of refresher to do. When I learned about the group from my daughter, it seemed perfect!”
