WE'RE CLOSING

This meetup group will move to Facebook on Oct. 25th. This will save us the monthly fee, $19 and allow all Members to not pay dues. So far, I've personally taken on this cost personally. Go to our new Facebook Group.

I've made this decision due to the constant low turn-out at the meetups. There are several Moms who say they LOVE coming and have enjoyed themselves. I'll keep planning things because I love going out. I'm a 'never home' Mommy. Me and my road-dog Chloe, my baby, are always on the road - going and doing something! So, if you'd like to tag along or suggest something, then let's keep the group open on Facebook for FREE!

I also had lots of success with Facebook. I used Facebook for my 20th HS Reunion and we had a good response online. So let's move!

WELCOME TO LATTE MOMS

WHO ARE WE?

Latte Moms is a support group for mothers of color ("Latte") who either work outside or inside of the home. Our goal is to provide mothers with a supportive parent community; a positive nurturing environment where they will receive: Mother-to Mother Support, Friendship, Family, Unity, and Community. Also, Latte Moms encourages the spirit of community activism within its membership, so from time to time, we will participate in charity events so that we can 'Pay It Forward'.

Latte Moms' primary aim is for moms and babies to meet up and have fun - GET ACTIVE! Our group is open to babies 6 months-old to 7 years old. We get together so that the kids can play, Moms can chit chat, and most importantly have fun.

WHY THIS? WHY NOW?

Latte Moms was started by one, fun-loving Mom of color who noticed that Moms of color (e.g., Black, Hispanic, Multi-Cultural) were absent in most mainstream Mommy groups. Although she loved (and still loves) going to all of the Mommy meetups, there didn't seem to be a group for Mothers and Babies of color. Actually she found that Moms of color in 99% of the meetups on meetup.com contained little to no Moms of colors in any substantial numbers. This group is one Moms way of reaching out to a community of 'hidden' Moms - hidden in the shadows, who maybe have not come forward to join groups out of feeling 'left out' or 'under-represented' or maybe just uncomfortable. We encourage you to join this group and a few others on meetup.com so that you can experience the diversity in thoughts, locations, playdates, etc. that each group offers. We all learn from doing!

Of course, "Latte Dads" or "Latter Partners" are always invited. We welcome Grandmas and Grandpas too. Your family is our family!

WHEN DO WE MEET?

Latte Moms will meet primarily on the WEEKENDS - Friday evenings through Sunday evenings. Future meetups may be scheduled during the week, if time permits.

WHAT ACTIVITIES?

Latte Moms and Babies will take full advantage of everything South Florida has to offer, such as city parks, water activities, and cultural events. We'll strive for a balance of free and paid events, since there are so many free parks, however many of the indoor playgrounds and water parks are fee-based.

Occasionally we'll throw in a "Moms Night Out" (MNO) and we'll even do some "Mommy & Me Dinners". We'll shake it up whenever possible. Most events are "Mommy & Me" or "Family & Child" events, so we try to never put you in the position of getting a babysitter.

DISCOUNTS?

We will attempt to ask for 'group' discounts whenever and wherever we can. All posted events will contain an admissions fee/price, if there is one. Most events are free, however when meeting at a Mom's private home, it would be nice to contribute to the theme (e.g., bring juice boxes, wine for Moms, healthy snacks).

WHAT TO EXPECT?

FUN. FUN & MORE FUN. Latte Moms is a great place to meet other moms of color who want to gather, laugh, and enjoy the joys of Motherhood. Single or married, it doesn't matter. If you are Mom (or Dad) who wants to get out with the kid(s), then this is the place! Discuss important issues that affect our children - healthcare, "Where do I find a doll that looks like my child", education, etc. We are a group of concerned parents of color who are paving the way for a promising future.
