How did you get started in development/programming?

I started learning how to code while working with a proprietary language, inside a popular GIS program. Prior to that I had done some very minimal work with Web sites, mostly through composition programs that did most of the work for me. My work with the proprietary language helped me land my first job as a software developer. It was at that job where I started to learn how to work with HTML and JavaScript. After that I was hooked. Since then I've worked extensively with HTML, JavaScript, and CSS and now I'm focusing more on UI design and user experience. I've had an opportunity to work with a variety of languages along the way, including server-side languages such as ASP.NET and PHP. I've worked in Windows and Linux environments and have experience with a variety of graphic and Web design software.

I work for an engineering firm in Topeka, as a GIS developer. Most of the work I do is Web development and design. I'm more of a front-end developer and love it when I can work strictly with HTML, JavaScript, and CSS.
