"The function of leadership is to produce more leaders, not more followers." - Ralph Nader
Join Eric Ries and Hiten Shah in a fireside chat discussing leadership in a lean startup context.
Yes, you should be able to see the video here: http://www.justin.tv/leanstartu...![]()

Excellent conversations afterwards - fireside chat could have been longer though, with room for the audience questions when the specific topics were discussed (e.g. engines of growth).

Great talk by Eric, very motivating! My only wish was that it was longer and Hiten had a chance to speak more.
I was so fired up about Lean Startup that I took a moment today to share some lessons learned so far on my blog: http://b.prestonsmalley.com/pos...![]()

Eric is a great speaker. It was very interesting to hear about his interest in How Do We Develop New Generation of Leaders who build sustainable companies.. very current topic indeed.

Well organized, good venue, and food and drink to boot. Looking forward to the next event. I vote for an upgraded fireplace!
June 7
Amazing speakers! Eric Ries enthralled with details about innovation accounting. Hiten Shah knew what to ask!
June 7
Great talk and well organized. The rapport between Hiten and Eric was also really good, which really makes or breaks this kind of talk.

Upgrade to virtual fireplace pro next time!
In all seriousness, the event went exceedingly well. I met some tremendous people from all over the world, met both entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs, and learned a ton from Eric and Hiten.
Thanks again for organizing Tristan and thanks to Votizen for hosting at their very cool office.

Thanks everyone for attending and putting up with all the technical issues.
The stream will be available at http://www.justin.tv/leanstartu...
and we'll try and edit down the space at the beginning.
We need to try for continuous improvement, so any suggestions are appreciated. What can we do 5% better?
(We already figured out to use Eventbrite for ticketing next time.)

Hands down the best meetup I've ever been to, and the best keynote to boot. Eric Ries thanks for being so totally humble and awesome at the same time.

I've been having similar issues where I click on the email announcing openings, I see a spot, I register, and I still show on the wait-list. I hate posting here as I know it will end up in everyone's email. Please fix the issue and add me to the issues list.

Duncan Ariey from meetup.com support who is asking anyone who is encountering RSVP issues to contact them. I have also forwarded a list of people reporting issues directly to meetup.com.
I realize this is very frustrating (for me as well) and now reports of people paying and then being summarily moved to the "not going" rsvp list which has started happening today.
I would advise not changing your waitlist position as perhaps this is part of the new issue.
Waiting for meetup to respond.

The way i eventually did it was changing the waiting list position. It feels like you are removing yourself from the waitinglist, but you can actually rsvp after that.
June 3
This seems to be an issue with meetup and is not configurable by me. :(
I've emailed support to inform them of the issue. My apologies on their behalf. I understand that is extremely frustrating.
June 2
I keep getting meetup emails that there are new spots available, but when clicking on the link I am still on the waiting list.. can you help?
June 2
Hi Josh,
I mean to say that the venue should seat everyone comfortably but that in the event anyone is happy for any reason I will refund the money. The paypal charge is about 60 cents, but I will happily refund that as well if anyone has a serous issue with that, the seating, the heating, or whatever.
Even if someone wants a refund for whatever reason, they can still stay as there should be plenty of standing room and beer.
This is complete satisfaction or your money back.

Hi - Been trying to take the 1 spot left but meet up keeps me on the wait list...
May 30
OK just checking what this update means. It sounds like those of us who signed up right away could show up and find people who were on the waiting list arrived early that night so we don't get a decent seat, and if we're not happy we get told to go away and you keep part of our money? If that's not the case you may want to clarify. If that is the case, you may want to rethink how you are managing the event.
May 30
I'm assured that we can fit 100 + standing room within earshot (though probably not LoS) so I'm going to increase the ticket count to 95 for the moment. (Saving 5 for camera guys, etc)
In the event that anyone is unsatisfied with their seat (read: behind a pole) I will refund their ticket minus paypal fees.
For those who still find themselves on the wait list, please note that thanks to the generous folks at Justin.tv we will be streaming the event at http://justin.tv/leanstartupcir...![]()

Everyone is in town for the Agile SF conference I guess, hope the venue can be increased, all the way from NZ
May 22, 2012
Hi Tom,
The space can actually hold much more but in the interests of caution, I'm waiting to do a test setup of the chairs prior to increasing the count. This should be next week.

Wow Tom. I feel lucky to be in at this point. Seems a second event, at the very least, is inevitable.
May 22, 2012
Given 58 people on the waiting list ($25 x 58 = $1,450), is it possible to consider a different venue, or to have a second meeting/"chat" ?
May 22, 2012
Ok, location now posted. If the location is inconvenient, no worries. I am happy to offer a refund.
May 15, 2012
Yes, sorry. Location is in SF. Will be deciding on the venue in the next couple days.
May 15, 2012
Wouldn't miss it. This is perfect timing. See you all there. Cheers - Raymond

Same question. I want to attend, but reluctant to commit to cost without knowing at least approximate location.

Refunds offered if:
Payments you make go to the organizer, not to Meetup. You must make refund requests to the organizer.
