This remains a free event, with free beer and free pizza provided.
Bootstrapping - hack your cashflow to grow your startup without investment
Date and time:
Tuesday 26th March at 630pm
Envato are an awesome Melbourne based startup, whose mission is to help people to earn and to learn, online. They operate marketplaces where hundreds of thousands of people buy and sell digital goods every day, and a network of educational blogs where millions learn creative skills.
Please check them out at www.envato.com.
Come and learn from an experienced panel, including the opportunity for plenty of open Q&A. We have confirmed the following people for the panel:
Leni Mayo - 99Designs, Sitepoint, Flippa, Learnable
Leni is a massive contributor to the Melbourne startup ecosystem, and if you haven't heard him speak before you really should come along. He has founded startups that were successfully acquired, raised money (then given it back!), and has been an original investor and board member in some of Melbournes most successul startups.
James Farmer - CEO, Incsub
Previously employed at The Age to manage the blogs and community initatives, James has taken that experience and spun it into Edublogs (the largest education blogging network on the web) and WPMUDev, selling the best Wordpress, BuddyPress and Multisite plugins on the web. With over 160,000 members and over 2 million page views a month, James has built a successful startup from Melbourne via organic growth.
Didier Elzinga - CEO, CultureAmp
Didier founded CultureAmp, a people development software company that delivers a radical new way of approaching performance reviews to fast growing companies all over the world. Previously he was the CEO of Rising Sun Pictures for 13 years. Didier is also a non-executive director of both the Atlassian Foundation and Tourism Australia.
Collis Ta'eed - CEO, Envato
Collis is the CEO and co-founder of Envato, the company behind some of the webs leading websites including Themeforest, Audiojungle, Activeden and Tutsplus. Based in Melbourne, the Envato marketplaces have a combined reach of almost 2.5 million members.
Rebecca Derrington - CEO, Sourcebottle
Rebecca is the entrepreneur who founded SourceBottle three years ago in Australia. Sourcebottle is a free and easy-to-use connection platform that enables journalists and bloggers to efficiently find knowledgeable sources. Since then, the service has expanded into countries in North America, the United Kingdom and the Asia Pacific.
After trialling it last month, the demo pit is back bigger than ever!
For this event, we are offering up to 6 spots for founders to present their product/business to over 250 attendees. This is not a pitch event in front of the entire crowd. Instead, each startup will be positioned in the room during the pizza/beer at the start of the event. As people mingle about the room, if they come past your table with your demo setup you can show your product off and maybe land a customer or two.
If getting your demo in front of[masked] like minded entreprenuers is of interest to you, then please apply to take one of these slots. All you will need is a laptop hooked up to a monitor, and we can probably supply the monitor.
Suitable startups would:
- Be Melbourne based
- Have at least 1 founder able to demo the product on the night
- Have a product to demo (it's okay if it is not totally finished, but we need more than a powerpoint)
To grab a spot, email Cameron Rambert on [masked]
Okay this is a new one for this month, and to make it work we need you to help! This month, there are two slots available for a startup founder to deliver a short (5 minutes or less) talk on their bootstrapping experience. There are only 3 rules:
- The talk must be 5 minutes or less
- It should be loosely based around the theme of the night (growing a startup without outside investment)
- Teach us something
If this sounds up your alley and you would like to share your experience with the crowd, send an email pitch to [masked] with your talk idea. Just a paragraph will be fine.
