Sketching as a way to fail fast

You can't really get leaner than pen and paper and yet the message of sketching as a way of failing fast has been lost a bit amongst all the focus on sketches as aesthetic artefacts in their own right. Who's up for some some shit drawing as a means to a valuable end?

Great event, thanks! Learned some new techniques, got some practice in, and met some great, creative people. It was really fascinating seeing how different groups approached the same problem.

A really great evening learning to improve our sketching skills with active and supportive colleagues. It was a lesson in showiung us we had gaps in our skill set which I hope will be closed in subsequent meetings.

Thanks for coming Terry. I'm going to suggest another meetup around sketching techniques as this seemed to be something of interest to a few people.

Great idea - some sketching seemed too deep and some to shallow.

    Hi folks

We've change our plans for this evening slightly based on some evaluation of the activity we were thinking of doing. There will now be more opportunities for everyone to sketch and a more structured format for us to follow - more details this evening. There will plenty of beer and pizza to fuel everyone. Cheers,
    Stuart

Oh yes - and if you have any ideas you would like to showcase, please feel free to let us know in advance and we'll give you priority, otherwise come along and be inspired on the night.

    Hi folks

As this is going to be the first Lean UX meetup of many I hope, I thought it might be good to tailor the activity to the event. We have a whiteboard wall in the kitchen area of the ThoughtWorks office that I'd like us to fill up with doodled anecdotes on the topic of sketching and how this supports keeping things lean. We are going to try something called "Pass The Marker" which is basically a fishbowl crossed with a whiteboard. The aim being to fill up the entire wall with sketches and doodles in support of a particular idea, technique or anything that people want to illustrate and discuss so long as it's (broadly) on topic.

    Cheers,
    Stuart

P.S. - if anyone would like to get involved in organising future meet ups, let me know so we can expand the admin side of things.
