Flat and Lean: Structuring a Team for Success

Join us August 19th for a fun night discussing what makes a great team.

The team at Fisdap will share how they implemented LeanUX in a flat organization, with special focus on the structure of their team. After struggling with isolated maintenance development and project planning that wasn’t meeting the mark, they developed a plan for a new team structure.

From getting buy-in across the organization, to implementing the change, to iterating on the structure itself, they have learned a lot and have a lot to share. They will present on their new MVP team structure, and be available for discussion about what sets a team up for success.

Rachel Walberg's first view into UX was as a member of the Coaching team at Philips DirectLife, where her background in Psychological research led her to to contributing to internal tools with information architecture and user testing. After moving to Fisdap, she continued to work with users, learning first hand about their challenges and working with developers to solve those problems. Problem solving led into product owning the Fisdap Maintenance Team, and being more directly involved in the development process, as well as feature design, project planning, and user research. She currently works in a similar capacity on Team Too.

Genghis Philip is an operations geek with too many degrees. Sometimes people pay him money to talk to customers and do scrum mastery on development teams. He also blogs at www.flatvocate.com.

Rachel Wasilewski entered the world of UX by way of Graphic Design. After graduating from the Art Institute in Minneapolis, she worked in the Environmental Design department at Best Buy corporate. There, she was primarily involved in creating in-store marketing, signage, and fixture displays. She didn't think of it this way at the time, but they were really designing the "user experience" of a Best Buy store. Now at Fisdap, Rachel has been immersed in the development process, and while she continues to do graphic design as well, she spends most of her time doing more traditional UX work - gathering requirements, designing interfaces, communicating with developers, and participating in user research.
