April chess - lesson 2

My plan is to go ahead with lesson 2 on this date, since we should have a good number of people who are ready for it.  We will cover the opening and how to get yourself in a good position to play the rest of the game.  We'll also have games going on as usual.  $5 for the lesson, free for games.  See you there.

If anyone is on chess.com I'm user 'dbayendor' if you want to play online against a novice.

For those interested: a few good opening books are Chess Openings: Traps and Zaps 1 and 2 by Bruce Pandolfini (the ones I mentioned in the lesson), as well as Winning Chess Openings by Yasser Seirawan. These cover general openings rather than a million deep variations, so they're better for learning the basic principles that we talked about in my lesson.

Thanks for hosting this David. When I went around the block I noticed a parking garage that said something about parking for people frequenting the retail facilities. Does that mean we can park for free in that parking garage? Do most people leave right after the lessons usually? I was expecting to play for a couple of hours afterwords, but everyone kinda cleared out.

The building across the street is pretty new, so I haven't seen what their parking situation is. Usually people hang out longer to play, for whatever reason it just didn't happen this week.

Something came up last minute, so I'll miss the first 20 minutes or so. So don't wait up, but I'll be there!

Is parking a problem down in that area? Any free parking? Should I be bringing all my extra chess sets or do you have a bunch?

Parking is free but some is two-hour only. Please bring a board if you want to play.
