August chess, part 2 - lesson 2 and games

Looks like lesson 2 is the one that will be good for the majority of people, so I will plan on teaching that one. This lesson focuses on the opening and how to get yourself into a good position to play the rest of the game, while also teaching important concepts about the game in general. $5 for the lesson, free to come and play games, as always. See you then.

There is 2-hour parking on 19th, and some of the side streets are completely open on the weekends. All is free.

Also, if those of you that did team chess last time want to continue that game, we can do so. Tim and I have the position written down so you can pick it up from there while I teach the lesson.

Wow, great crowd for this weekend! If you are coming for games, please bring a board and set so that we have enough for everyone. I'm leaning toward doing lesson 2, all about the opening, since it seems like that would be good for many of you.

Will I be able to bring my grandson(s) ages 8 and 4? I've been trying to show the 4 year the pieces and how he can move them on the board. He initiated the process because of "wizards chess".

Of course! We've had kids in the group before and it's not a problem at this coffee shop.

$5 for lesson, free for games, of course.
