VM - is it working only during the classes?

What is the purpose of a VM, it installs Ubuntu on my pc (with Windows 7) and makes a connection to a cloud with Hadoop installed on it? I can't boot the VM (no network connection), is it active only for the lecture hour or continuously?
Thanks, Georgi

You need to install virtualbox and then import the VM. Then you start the VM through virtualbox. You can use the VM whenever and as long as you want. Right now the VM runs locally on your laptop. The reason why we are using a VM is that it is not easy to install R and Hadoop on other platforms.

Thanks, probably it cannot run with me because my laptop is 32 bit and the ubuntu is for 64 bit PC as Cloudera requires.
