Thank you for your email and the opportunity to discuss the Leeds Live Music & Art Lovers group.

Question 1
The reason I initially joined Leeds Live Music & Art Lovers group was because I wanted to meet like-minded people and explore Leeds's music and arts scene. During the course of the year I have enjoyed the range of gigs and events suggested even when I have been unable to attend, and through it made friends. The group has a fairly clear aim and I do not want it to drift too far from this - there is a possibility that the Leeds Live Music & Art Lovers group starts to share too many events that are similar to those offered by other groups in Leeds and Yorkshire. I want the group to be built on respect for its members and the wide range of opinions they have, and consequencely want the group to encourage this.

Question 2
I think that if one sets up a meetup group they should decide before they start whether to charge the group or meet the costs themselves. Personally I feel the cost should be met by the organiser/co-organisers, if the group is their idea, their passion and under their control then the cost of should be theirs. There are fee-free means of setting up such a group if the organiser are determined to eliminate the cost.

In terms of Leeds Music & Art Lovers. If payment were to be introduced either by month or by event I would expect:
By month - for the group to have a members' charter which outlines expected behaviour (by members and the organisers), details of how the group will encourage dignity and respect amongst members, and a clear, concise and open way the group handles issues and complaints.
By event - I would expect the group's organiser/co-organisers to be present inside the venue at each meetup to welcome fellow members.

I have other suggestions though these are not covered in your two questions.
