Stereotype Threat

Stereotype threat is the finding that being in a situation where individuals are reminded of a negative stereotype surrounding their group membership (e.g., women taking a maths test; White athletes taking part in a sporting event), can result in underperformance. Harriet Rosenthal (Durham University) explores the evidence for stereotype threat across a range of different stereotypes, and also examines possible explanations for the effect.

Sorry, can't make the first meet as not in the UK :-S but would love to come to the next one. Anyone got any preference for a pub. I live near Meanwood, so Headingley or Chapel Allerton would be good for me but willing to travel to meet like-minded human beings x
