I run a small non-profit that educates the public on issues of patient-care ethics and creates tools to empower patients to make their own healthcare decisions.
I'm not sure how well I fit the appellation given I had to look it up. If aspirations count, I fit the profile.
I have many favorite books: A Tale of Two Cities, The Brothers Karamazov, To Kill a Mockingbird, Moby Dick, and the list goes on. These are the books I've enjoyed more than others. But note that enjoying a book is not the same as a book being life changing. That is a different list. Also, most recently I've been reading non-fiction, not so much because the writing is good, but because I feel I need to do more to understand the world.
I like to explore ideas, to be challenged, and to never stop broadening my horizons.
Hi Sigrid ! Glad you found this meetup group! We hope that one of the 11 Loudoun County, Reston and Herndon Toastmasters clubs listed on the left side of this page is close to your home or work. Toastmasters provides a very supportive environment for you to practice your communication and leadership skills. Your public speaking skills will improve without you realizing that you've improved. Let me know if you have any questions about Toastmasters. -Edmond
Hope you mention "The Kidney Sellers" in the next NBBC meetup!
Thanks for joining International Professionals Group www.IPGDC.org . Hope to see you soon at IPG events.
It's fantastic what you do. Can't wait to read your book.
I'm still interested in hospice since my days at VNSNY. They did hospice correctly and still do according to my contacts. I was a hospice volunteer here in Reston. Iit was an awful experience as the facility did everything they could to keep the patients alive, no matter how the suffered, so they could bill the insurance providers. I'm interested in the death and dying issue.
I know the empty-nester syndrome well. I got l cured, when my grand daughter was born and I' became her nanny when when my daughter went back to work. I was full time for the first two years and now I'm l part time. I'm retired with way to much time on my hands -- my husband still works full time. And being with a small and delightful child does not satisfy intellectual and friendship needs. So I'm looking to interact with people who are progressive and support progressive causes.
Hi Sigrid, I'm glad you attended today's get together and participated in the discussion. I hope to see you at other meetings, Would you mind posting the link to your online form? Sounds like a great tool. Best Austin
