Alpha House of Tampa is a non-profit organization founded in 1981 to serve pregnant women in crisis and their families. They offer both maternity and post-birth transitional housing facilities. There are currently about 35 mothers with children living at or being helped by Alpha House. Watch this video to see just how these moms benefit from help from Alpha House:

How we will LEND A HAND Lend a Hand will put on a Valentine's party for the mothers and children at Alpha House! This will include decorating cookies, doing craft projects, and/or playing with the children and visiting with the mothers. The possibilities are endless, and we need your help in planning the event, bringing supplies if possible, as well as attending the event! We need help planning the party! We will converse via this message board posting (please track the discussion):
http://www.meetup.com...[masked]
Schedule: Saturday, February 13, 9:30am - 12pm
What to bring:

  • Please wear comfortable, casual clothes (some red or pink if possible!)

  • Please bring a warm smile!

  • Please sign up to bring items needed for the crafts (see discussion forum noted above)

  • If you would like to donate more than your time and supplies for this event, Alpha House can always use diapers and baby wipes!

Other Important Information: Maybe RSVP's are not permitted for this event. Please consider this seriously before you RSVP, it is very important that we have an accurate count a couple of days in advance to provide to the organization. Last-minute drop-outs reflect badly on our organization. Lend a Hand can now approve a pass for each volunteer for the "Give a Day Get a Disney Day" program! Please follow the instructions under 'Files' if you're interested in getting a pass. You must complete the entire sign-up process with Disney and HandsOn (per the instructions) for us to be able to approve the pass.
http://www.meetup.com... You may bring one child per adult. You must monitor your child at all times, and be fully responsible for them. Please note if you will bring a child (and child's age) along with your RSVP. If you are signing up for the Disney pass, you will have to coordinate with the group organizer to be able to sign up a child (it is currently set to 18).
Join us and open your heart to LEND A HAND!

It looked like everyone from Alpha House enjoyed themselves. I had a great time also and was surprised by how fast the time went by.The cookie decorating compitition between some of the girls was fierce and they definatly have some budding artests in the group. One of the girls even framed her poem to show us before we left.
It was an eye opener going on the tour of the house. I was glad we were able to provide a party for them and put smiles on thier faces. The smiles on the Chidrens faces were priceless:)

Some highlights for me-baby smiles, holding baby, watching Tim with the little guy (Tim was in his element), Heather's raffle, all the beautiful decorating you all did, Kelly's motivation cards, seeing one of those cards in one of the girl's room already on her dresser during our tour, meeting new people w/ kind hearts and talking to you about your other service work. and Daniel's little photo gadget which was a huge hit with the girls there. Thank you all!

It was a wonderful experience to be a part of and, without question, it was for a worthy cause. Kudos to Kelly once again for her putting together these terrific service opportunities, and to all of the volunteers I met. Finally, kudos to the Alpha House and the young ladies that live there. My wife had my stepdaughter Cathy when she was 15 and did not have this kind of program available to her then. Most of these moms are just kids themselves and they need this kind of program. I am going to try to make a "donation run" once a month. I will call the Alpha House a couple of days before and ask them what they really need at that time. I will then post those needs on this site, and if you wish to contibute we can make arrangements for me to pick up the goods, or whatever. Peace...

Adrienne, I will move someone from the waiting list. Thanks for providing the cookies still! We will need to figure out how to get them, just e-mail me directly. I didn't realize you were bringing 4 dozen, I had you down for 30. Thanks!

I someone would like to take my spot off the waiting list, let me know. My father is in town and has told us he will be leaving that morning so I would like to be here to say goodbye if I can. I committed to making 4 dozen cookies which I have already started and will still provide. If no one from the WL wants my spot, I will still go so we're not shorthanded.

If the event is full, please RSVP to go on the waiting list. If someone drops out you may be able to come! Please just watch for the communication if you get cleared from the waiting list.
