As a food bank, Feeding America Tampa Bay is a resource to 600 approved charities that run some type of feeding program.  These include soup kitchens, food pantries, emergency shelters, and Kids Cafe sites.

This agency partner network is a very efficient way to get food to those in need according to need, and it is their primary means of distributing food.

How we will LEND A HAND

September is Hunger Action Month, and Feeding America just added a fun volunteer opportunity and are inviting us! They will be hosting an evening volunteer event at the Tampa warehouse called "Orange Out". There will be a live DJ and light refreshments provided for all volunteers as they help sort through perishable and non-perishable food donations and pack bags of groceries for the community in need.

Much of the warehouse is air-conditioned, but not all of it (but it's still pretty cool).

All volunteers - Please read the Feeding America volunteer form for more specifics about the event: www.meetup.com/LendaHand/files/

6pm - 8pm - Meet at the front desk 10 minutes early to meet each other and sign in with the organization and our event host.

What to bring:

• Please wear casual, comfortable, conservative clothes (no short shorts or tank tops) and closed-toed shoes

• If this is your first time volunteering with them, please print, sign, and bring the Feeding America volunteer form linked above (or you can get one there if you have trouble printing).

• A warm smile!

• If you would like to donate more than your time, please feel free to bring a food donation

Directions and Parking:

Click the link in the location above to see a map to the event location. Go to Building #6, in the back, then go to the far end of that building. Parking spaces are located in front of the building. Make sure to park on Feeding America Tampa Bay’s side of the parking lot.

Other Important Information:

If you are bringing a guest, please provide his/her name along with your RSVP.

This is a child-friendly event for children 10 years and older. You must monitor your child at all times, and be fully responsible for them. Please note if you will bring a child (and child's age) along with your RSVP.

Additional information about Lend a Hand events, such as RSVPing, bringing guests, waiting lists, and last-minute dropouts is located on the 'About' page, please familiarize yourself with our current policies and procedures: http://www.meetup.com/LendaHand/about/

Join us and open your heart to LEND A HAND!

Please consider this seriously before you RSVP, it is very important that we have an accurate count a couple of days in advance to provide to the organization. Last-minute drop-outs are difficult to replace and reflect badly on our organization.

Thanks very much to all of you for volunteering at tonight’s “Orange Out” event! It was great to meet and work with each of you, and I hope that you had a great time helping out Feeding America. Our group bagged weekly meals for 300 children tonight, and sorted several crates of donated food and groceries. With a tough economy, Feeding America hasn't had as many volunteers, and they greatly appreciated our support. Thanks again for your time and effort tonight, and I hope you'll consider volunteering again at future Feeding America events.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
