Metropolitan Ministries

  • Jul 19, 2014 · 8:30 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

Metropolitan Ministries faithfully reaches out to poor, hungry and homeless men, women and children in their time of need — providing life-changing answers. Within their care, people find food, clothing, shelter, and other vital services year round. But more importantly they find compassion and hope – hope for a brighter day and future.

How we will LEND A HAND

Metropolitan Ministries has a variety of areas in which they need help year round. We could be sorting food in the food warehouse, sorting clothes in the clothes warehouse, preparing or serving food in the kitchen, helping out in the thrift store, or a variety of other things. We should be helping in the kitchen preparing food or serving the clients on this day, but we ask that you be flexible if we are needed in another area!

Please read the Metro Min Volunteer Guidelines 2014 before the event:

Metro Min Volunteer Guidelines 2014.pdf

Schedule: 8:30am - 11:30am - Please plan to stay the entire time. Meet in the parking lot about 10 minutes early to meet each other and go in together. Otherwise, meet inside if you arrive later. Sign in at the Family Care Center.

What to bring:

• Please wear long pants, a shirt with sleeves (i.e. no tank tops, but short sleeves are ok), and non-skid, closed-toed shoes that can get wet or dirty.

• You will be required to wear a hairnet. You may bring a hat if you'd like to wear that as well.

• A bottle of water for yourself.

• A warm smile!

• If you would like to donate more than your time, feel free to bring some non-perishable food items, clothing, toiletries, or a new toy to donate.

Directions and Parking:

Get directions by clicking on the location above.  This agency is located just north of downtown Tampa between N. Tampa St. and N. Florida Ave. (N. Florida Ave. is a one-way street going north and N. Tampa St. is a one-way street going south). Park in the main parking lot on the south side of the building, between N. Tampa St. and N. Florida Ave., just north of E. Ross Ave.

***Parking has changed as our lot is under construction - groups on the weekends should plan to park in street.

Other Important Information:

If you are bringing a guest, please provide his/her name along with your RSVP.

This is a child-friendly event for children 12 and older due to the nature of the work (slippery floor, using knives, etc). You must monitor your child at all times, and be fully responsible for them. Please note if you will bring a child (and child's age) along with your RSVP.

Additional information about Lend a Hand events, such as RSVPing, bringing guests, waiting lists, and last-minute dropouts is located on the 'About' page. Please familiarize yourself with our current policies and procedures:

Join us and open your heart to LEND A HAND!

Please consider this seriously before you RSVP, it is very important that we have an accurate count a couple of days in advance to provide to the organization. Last-minute drop-outs are difficult to replace and reflect badly on our organization.

Is this Meetup full?

Please click 'Notify me' and you will be notified if a spot opens up. This will help us fill spots that open up due to late dropouts!
