Habitat for Humanity

The ultimate goal of Habitat for Humanity of Hillsborough County is to eliminate substandard and poverty housing and homelessness from Hillsborough County. We build homes...build lives...and build hope. Furthermore, all our words and actions are for the ultimate purpose of putting shelter on the hearts and minds of people in such a powerful way that poverty housing and homelessness become socially, politically and religiously unacceptable in our nation and world.

How we will LEND A HAND

We will help construct a home. Join us for an incredible day of building! It's posted that we will install insulation and other items for energy efficiency. Please be flexible if the requested job changes!

Schedule:
8am - 12:30pm Habitat build (please be on time for their orientation and plan to stay the entire time).
When you arrive, please check in with Habitat and the Lend a Hand host (if we have one posted here).

What to bring:

  • Please wear comfortable outdoor work clothes and closed-toed shoes
  • Please bring an extra long sleeve shirt to change into while installing insulation
  • Bring your own work gloves if you have any (garden gloves are fine)
  • Bring The Affiliate Waiver printed from Habitat's website (or you can sign one there)
  • Bring your lunch, working on a CONSTRUCTION SITE can really work up an appetite! Our team can eat together and socialize a bit.
  • Bring a reusable water bottle, water refills and snacks will be provided by Habitat
  • Bring Sunscreen and/or a hat

This is a child-friendly event for children 16 and older. You must monitor your child at all times, and be fully responsible for them. Please note if you will bring a child (and child's age) along with your RSVP.

Additional information about Lend a Hand events, such as RSVPing, bringing guests, waiting lists, and last-minute dropouts is located on the 'About' page, please familiarize yourself with our current policies and procedures:

Join us and open your heart to LEND A HAND!

Please consider this seriously before you RSVP, it is very important that we have an accurate count a couple of days in advance to provide to the organization. Last-minute drop-outs are difficult to replace and reflect badly on our organization.

How 'Habitat for Humanity' benefits our community

Habitat for Humanity International was founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller. The concept of Habitat for Humanity is that each Habitat Affiliate and those in need of adequate shelter would work side-by-side with volunteers to build simple, decent homes. Habitat for Humanity of Hillsborough County became an Affiliate in 1987. Since then, they have built over 125 homes in Hillsborough County.
