Cataract Falls - High Marsh Loop

This hike in the Marin Municipal Water District is about 7 miles (+/- depending on who’s calculating).

We will meet at the Rock Springs trailhead and head down Cataract Trail. There should be water in the falls at this time of year. After going down, we will hike back up, taking High Marsh and Kent trails to get to Potrero picnic area where we will stop for a late lunch. Fro     m there it’s an easy short hike back to the trailhead.

Getting there:

• From US 101, exit #445b CA 1/Mill Valley/Stinson Beach

• Head West, following signs for  Hwy 1

• Left at junction with Almonte Blvd to stay on Hwy 1, drive about 2.5 miles

• Right on Panoramic Hwy (toward Muir Woods), drive about 5.5 miles• Right onto Pantoll and drive another 1.5 miles

• Park at Rock Springs Trailhead, at the junction with Ridgecrest.

Glad to hear that you're on the mend Pat. Thanks for the reminder that we should all get a tetanus every decade. See you an another hike.

I enjoyed the hike and wanted to thank all the ladies that came to my rescue and those that encouraged me along the hike/journey. This is an awesome group. BTW the Dr. checked the wound and it is superficial. I did get a tetanus shot, FYI: it is recommended for anybody going outdoors/ once every 10 years.

Even though Bodhi and I missed the official hike, we had a gorgeous hike down to Cataract Falls.....so tranquil walking next to the running water and seeing all the falls along the way. Nice to run into some of you in the parking lot.....hope to hike with you again (this time I hope I won't get lost).

I wish I could bring my dog but I'm afraid he'd get eatin' by a much larger creature. He's only 8lbs and slow.

    February 24, 2013

  • Kathleen

Maybe, if I can get a ride from an East Bay BART station.

    February 23, 2013

  • Kathleen

I'm also interested in getting a ride from the East Bay. I can get to any BART Station.

    February 23, 2013

  • Deborah

Yes, dogs are allowed on this hike and I'm planning to bring mine. Officially leashes are required. Please bring bags and plan to pack out their deposits. Dana, I can give you a ride from SF.

This is a beautiful hike! re: dogs. I am a dog lover. At the same time I support whatever the park service rules are for this area. If they are restrictive, I would want to follow that.

    February 22, 2013

  • Joyce

    Is this dog friendly?

    February 22, 2013

  • Tami

I live in Petaluma and would like to share a ride if anyone is coming from Sonoma County,

    February 21, 2013

  • Alexa

I would need a ride from the East Bay. I live in Benicia but can get a bus to BART.

    February 21, 2013

What about dogs?? I'm actually leaving the next weekend for a week-long trek through the Grand Canyon so don't think I can make this one. Best, Helen
