Marin Headlands - Slacker Ridge

This approximately 6-mile loop will take us up Rodeo Valley for great views of the bay (unless there's fog). The elevation gain is under 1000’, though there are some steep sections. We’ll have lunch at a bunker below Slacker Hill overlooking the bridge, and then return to our starting point. The weather is variable, so wear layers.

We will meet at the parking area about a half-mile east of the visitor center. (See the “P” on the map between the riding club and the rifle range): http://www.nps.gov/goga/planyourvisit/upload/map-mahe-140402-2.pdf

Getting there from Marin County:

• Head South on 101
• Take last exit before the bridge
• Turn left at stop sign, then immediately turn right (west) onto Conzelman Road
• Right at circle onto McCullough Road
• Left on Bunker Road, parking will be on right side before stable.

Getting there from San Francisco:

• Take first exit north of the bridge
• Right (east) on Alexander Avenue, left on West Bunker Road, go through tunnel
        OR
• Left under freeway, then follow instructions from Marin County

Planned Route: Rodeo Valley > SCA > Slacker > Coastal

Dogs are not allowed on some of these trails.

After a little googling found this about the SCA trail:

    SCA Trail (Marin Headlands)
No, this one’s not named after the reggae/calypso/punk fusion fad that peaked in the 1990s. SCA is the Student Conservation Association, an organization that engages young people in the hands-on stewardship activities for public lands all across America—including the Golden Gate National Parks. The tribute to Mighty Mighty Bosstones will have to wait. Someday, I suppose.

The weather gods might not have been with us, but the company was great. Thanks for an enjoyable hike.

Thanks for a great hike Deb and for giving this overheated Sac gal an excuse to play in the fog!

I'm not sure I'll be able to make it; I'm dropping out so someone on the waitlist will be able to go.

Hi Jill- For some reason, I've never been able to get the "reply" thing to work... Anyway, Susan and I will be at the Petaluma Park & Ride at Lakeville/101 at 9:00am. "Bubba" is a green and white Ford F250 with lumber racks and a white camper shell.
    See you then, -Pam

If any of the Sonoma County crew would like to carpool down in the Bubba truck, let me know and we can meet at the Petaluma park & ride...

Speaking of dropping out, I just did--got lured away by 50% off Madame Butterfly tickets. I hope to make next one, both for the hike and opportunity to meet new people. Deborah, thanks again for organizing!

Seems like the jaunts are always scheduled on a day I can't make it, so I hope I can get squeezed. I'm always hesitant too, as I make the assumption everyone has made a connection and won't be interested in meeting someone new (she said shyly). Is this one dog friendly?

Newcomers are always welcome. Don't get discouraged by the wait list; I'm sure some will drop out. Officially dogs are allowed on some, but not all, of the trails we will be hiking. I'll leave it up to you, but I'm leaving my dog at home.

I will be leaving from Pacifica 9AM going up Great Highway past the Cliff house then over to the Golden Gate bridge and can give anyone a ride who can intercept with me on the way. I have wanted to this part of the Bay Area since forever. Glad you are back Deb and look forward to swapping stories of Peru.

I want to go. Not sure if I can handle 6 miles but I'll increase my work outs. Sounds great. I may have my car on that day, if I do I may be able to give
