Purisima Creek Redwoods

This 7-mile loop follows a creek through a canyon, climbs uphill through chaparral, then descends through second growth redwoods with nice vistas. The elevation gain is about 1100’. It’s about have in the sun and half in the shade. Dogs are not permitted in this open space preserve.

Getting there:

• From 280 in San Mateo County, take CA 92 west (exit 34), drive down to Half Moon Bay

• Left (south) on CA 1, drive one mile

• Left on Higgins Canyon Road, drive about 4.5 miles on this winding road

• Park at trailhead on left side of road, just past a tiny white bridge

The planned route is: Purisima Creek Trail > Soda Gulch Trail > Harkins Ridge Trail

I checked the map, and taking Craig Britton Trail, instead of Soda Gulch as planned, was exactly 7 miles. It appears that the guidebook I used had the correct distance, but an obsolete trail.

Love to go; 7 miles is a bit much for me right now. Have fun.

Bummer! We've having a BBQ for my son's 16th birthday. I'd love to go on this hike... It's even relatively close to where I live. Have fun!
