What can we agree on about economics?

*** NOTE THE NEW LOCATION!! We're trying out the Atrium on Bay because the previous location was too noisy. ***

A lot of the things we want to discuss are likely to involve economics, so I feel we should try and build up some kind of common understanding. Starting from the basics, how much do we really know and understand about economics, and how much can we agree on before our political differences start to show?

Steve will be moderating this discussion so if he wants to suggest a different topic - or make the focus slightly narrower - that's good by me.

I go to another meet-up group that bases itself at the worlds biggest bookstore (20 Edward st.) I think they might let you use their back room for no charge if people put some money in a donation box for their literacy programme. It's quiet and the chairs are decent with tables and VERY close to DUNDAS subway station (NOT dundas west station.) If Giles or Steve Deyer contacts the management, we might be in luck.

Seating in the 'food court' was very uncomfortable. Looking at the design of those chairs, I can only assume that the intent was to make customers sufficiently comfortable to eat the food they buy there, but NOT so comfortable that they linger!

I may be a little late as my flight turned out not to exist so I have to take the next one. :-/

(I'm coming back from a CFAR workshop - http://appliedrationality.org/ - it's pretty cool and I'd like to have a quick slot to tell people about it if that's OK) :-)
