*** Please note the earlier-than-usual start time! ***
Having visited DUMBO, let's check out the neighborhood that started New York's acronym-naming craze, SoHo. Now known as a haven for wealthy residents and shoppers, the area was developed as an industrial zone and contains the greatest concentration of cast iron architecture in the world, including beauties such as the Gunther Building and the King and Queen of Greene Street (yes, those are the buildings' actual names!). Though the artists who flocked to the area in the late 20th century have mostly moved out, we'll try to check out some of the remaining galleries, too.
Keep in mind that we will be meeting at 10:00 am, earlier than our usual starting time. Anybody who's been to SoHo on a Saturday afternoon knows why. We'll certainly still encounter some crowds, but hopefully we'll avoid some of the congestion by getting an early start. Have a good breakfast, and if you work up an appetite by walking around, we'll get lunch in the area afterward.
Please read the reservation and cancellation policy, which you can find at http://www.meetup.com/Lets-Explore-New-Yorks-Neighborhoods/pages/RSVP_and_Cancellation_Policy/. Keep in mind that cancellations must be at least 24 hours in advance.
- If your name appears on the "attending" list before Tuesday, May 13, then you'll receive an e-mail with the details (including meeting location and contact information) on that date.
- If you appear on the "attending" list later that week, then you'll get the e-mail within 24 hours.
- If you are moved to the "attending" list on Friday, May 16, then you'll get the e-mail later that day.
If you are on the waitlist, then remember to check back regularly, since you might be added to the attending list as late as the evening of May 16. If you are on the waitlist and can no longer attend, please change your RSVP status to "no."
If you are on the "attending" list but haven't gotten the e-mail by the specified time, then feel free to contact me directly. (Go to my Meetup profile page and click "send email.") Please do not ask for details on the discussion board. I check my e-mail regularly up to the morning of the event. Thanks!
