ELAB presents CITY of NIGHT

ART. HISTORY. CULTURE. SUSTAINABILITY.

Donations accepted at the gate.

The event is from 4 pm - 1 am.

Mission

City of Night is a multi-faceted event held at Silo City in Buffalo, NY, designed to promote art, culture, sustainability and history by igniting a connection between people and the places around them. Through the event, ELAB (Emerging Leaders in the Arts Buffalo) provides an opportunity to experience a significant place visitors might not otherwise explore in a spectacularly unique way. Our goal is to provide a lasting experience that will effect each visitor’s interaction with their community and the important places around them forever.

Description

CITY of NIGHT is a one-night multi-disciplinary arts event with themes of Art, History, Culture and Sustainability. It features installations and projections in/outside the grain elevators, live performance in the form of sound art, theater, and dance, an art fair, a themed art show, food trucks, beer and wine tent, bike valet, and myriad ways to interact creatively with Buffalo's internationally-renowned, historic grain elevators. The event was created by Emerging Leaders in the Arts Buffalo (ELAB), and this is our third year.

CITY of NIGHT signifies the darkness that Buffalo and other similar places have experienced in the late 20th century, and where we're going, not only here but regionally, nationally, and internationally. Buffalo is evolving rapidly, awakening from its slumber, but some shadows remain. We seek to investigate the CITY of NIGHT and its symbolic or literal meanings. We are creative place-makers, rejuvenating the forgotten and threatened with the power of art. What will we do with the dawn?

I found a place that sold those balloons. Unfortunately be a highly unlikely they make it by the 4th but order them anyway. They are about a dollar piece and they come in different sizes and shapes. If you would like to know where I got just let me know.

I was standing next to Paul as the balloons took flight. They seemed to be moving toward Canada. Fort George, being made of wood, I said something the Canadians might think to the effect "Those crazy Americans are trying to burn down our fort again" !

This will be the first event I am trying to attend with this group. I am not very familiar with the area of silo city. I know there is a lot of construction going on in that area. Could someone give me some idea of the best place to park and where exactly others may be meeting to then make their way to silo city. Any info is much appreciated.

A group member says that last time he was at Silo City, he parked at Rigidized Metals (658 Ohio St, Buffalo).

Just a reminder - CITY of NIGHT attendees are reminded that there is NO parking at Silo City during the event. This is per www.cityofnightbuffalo.com. However, the site mentions carpooling to the Old First Ward (just across the Ohio Street Bridge from the event), or using the park & ride shuttle. Parking in the Park & Ride lots listed below is free and takes you to the entry gate for the event, but we request a donation of at least $2 per person to cover our shuttle costs. Options:

    - First Niagara parking lots between Mississippi, Perry, Columbia and South Park (one block east of the First Niagara Center arena, in the Cobblestone District); catch the Shuttle at the south end of the lots toward South Park Ave.

    - Small Boat Harbor public parking lots A & B on Fuhrmann Boulevard on the Outer Harbor. Catch the Shuttle in front of Dug’s Dive."

It is difficult to post a meeting spot as it's just a big open area. I will stand to the left in the open area though and away from the crowd of attendees as much as possible until about 4:45 pm. If you're newer to the group, take a glance a everyone's pictures. If you can't find us, please post a comment or I will provide to my number to those who are concerned about finding us and ask for it. No worries, we'll figure it out! :)

This is just some extra information from the website:

Please note, we will NOT allow any cars onto the site except for handicapped attendees, but you can take advantage of many alternate transit options including the water ferry, NFTA bus routes, bicycling (we have a bike valet courtesy of GO Bike Buffalo!), and carpooling to the Old First Ward, just across the Ohio Street Bridge from the event. Be prepared to walk a fair amount- wear comfortable shoes that are suitable for uneven ground in a raw, industrial environment. Bring a jacket in case it gets cool later in the evening.
