Please read this page thoroughly, and every hike write up thoroughly, before signing up for a hike!
The purpose of this group is to hike together as a cohesive group and take time to actually enjoy the scenery and wild life we may encounter. We aren't in a super rush to get up (or down) the mountain, and if you continually hike in front of the leader you will be removed from the group. If the leader drops back into the group, be sure to stop at all trail junctions to be sure which direction the hike is going. We aren't slow and we may push to get up the hill. If you'd like to join us on our hikes, great, if our speed isn't for you, there are lots of other meet-up groups to check out. Hike distances and elevations will be listed in hike descriptions as accurately as possible for each event.
Sorry, but some of the below is for that 1% of hikers who create problems!
Hike leaders will set the pace, the time, the distance, the amount of hikers they want to lead, the trails they want to take, and decide when to move on after taking a break. If you have a time issue, it is best to skip the specific hike and wait until you can enjoy your day with the group instead of trying to rush everyone else to meet your needs.
If you want to try and run a hike, please become a hike leader or start your own group! Don't argue with hike leaders, or beg to be added to an already full hike, they don't have to allow you on their hike! We feel bad for those who can't go, so please don't make it worse for us. Hike leaders are hard to come by, so they have complete control over their hikes. The organizer will back the hike leader every time! We hike for our pleasure, so if we don't enjoy leading you, we won't.
We will go at an even pace, but will stop as the need arises to catch our breath and take a look around. Photographers are welcome but you need to keep up with the group. While I am comfortable with many of our local trails/parks I would like to learn more and look forward to exploring with like-minded individuals with an adventurous and happy spirit.
While everyone is responsible for their own safety on the hike, your event host does count hikers at junctions to make sure everyone is accounted for. We want to make sure we leave the hike with the same number of hikers we started with: it is no fun to be lost in the forest and it is no fun to lose a hiker along the way.
We would love to have you join us on our hikes, but if you are not going to make it, please change your RSVP the day before the hike so some else is notified in time to make the hike. Anyone with three no-shows will be removed from the group.
P.S. A cohesive group means not speeding ahead and getting detached from the group, or lagging behind and causing the group to stand around waiting for you to catch up. These actions may get you removed from the group.
