DFA-MC Presents: The United States of ALEC

For almost 40 years, major companies like Philip Morris, Koch Industries, Exxon Mobil, and General Electric have been part of an organization working to transform our government of, by and for the people into their government of, by, and for corporations.

Through ALEC, the American Legislative Exchange Council, hundreds of “leading” corporate citizens have quietly crafted state laws to enhance their balance sheets. They’ve worked to restrict access to health care, turn public schools and prisons into profit centers, eviscerate clean air and clean water laws and evade federal taxes. In partnership with partisan ideologues, they’ve pushed anything-goes gun laws that make our neighborhoods less safe and election laws that threaten to deprive millions of students, minorities, elderly, and disabled Americans of the right to vote.

Ladies - my apologies for not being able to stay tonight. I am glad that I was able to at least meet a couple of you - and sorry I might have missed meeting some of our other members.
Unfortunately I couldn't stay due to a bit of a crisis within my circle of friends involving an unstable woman (who just happens to have a gun) and some threatening language (not towards me thankfully!) The issue needed to be dealt with and certain plans made.

Again - my apologies for not being able to stay.
