2nd Annual March for Equality: Arizona's Moral March

Another year has passed at the Arizona state legislature since 1,000 of us marched for marriage equality. Another year has passed where too many of us--regardless of identity--continue to feel the sting of marginalization & isolation at the hands of our legislators.

Have you felt it? Have you been discriminated against for something you cannot change? Have you experienced alienation at the hands of your peers or leaders? It is time--to stand in solidarity with one another and say, "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!"

This is a march for ALL communities passionate about social justice, reconciliation, & bold leadership in Arizona; all who embrace these values are welcome: atheists, religious communities, LGBTQ, straight, Latino, African American, Caucasian, disabled, immigrant, wealthy, poor, men, women, teachers, business owners, elected officials, doctors, lawyers, activists, labor unions, entrepreneurs, city employees, young, old...all are welcome.

Our voices will ring loud from the streets of Phoenix as we march in solidarity. It is time to stand together to begin healing the rifts in our communities. It is time to work together. It is time to build the future we wish to see in our state. Our voices must be heard, our stories known, and our impact felt. Will you stand with us and be counted?

A tentative schedule for the March:

From the Courthouse to the Capitol:
10:30-10:45 Arrive at Courthouse
10:45-11:00 Prepare to March/Speakers
11:00-11:35 March to Capitol
11:35-12:45 Program at the Capitol (Details to come!)
12:45-1:00 Close the Event

For those attending (hopefully I can this time) perhaps we can meet for breakfast and maybe carpool arrangements.

    Hi Ladies -

The event tomorrow will be just the rally at the Civic Space Park.

We have had a fantastic opportunity arise! In order to accommodate our diverse communities and provide an area of easy accessibility for those using public transit, etc., we will be staging the event at Civic Space Park in downtown Phoenix. That is correct: we WILL NOT be meeting at Sandra Day O'Connor Courthouse. We believe we will have more of an impact in downtown Phoenix and will simultaneously be increasing access to all who wish to participate.

Please share this with anyone you believe will be attending so there is no confusion. Thank you!

    Parking/Transit Details:

If you are coming downtown via light rail, your stop will be Van Buren & Central. If you are driving and parking, there are multiple garages nearby the park.

This won't change our meeting plans any: breakfast at The Good Egg at 8:30.

    UPDATE: New Speakers -

    - JJ Johnson: US veteran and local business owner
    - Brendon Pantillone: Community activist and instrument leader during SB 1062
    - Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton

Additionally, representatives from the Health & Human Services office in Washington, DC will be flying in to assist anyone with questions about signing up for affordable healthcare coverage ahead of the ACA deadline. They will also be working to sign individuals up for coverage at the event. If if you have questions about your current coverage or lack thereof, come prepared to have them answered.

    Hi Ladies!

For those interested: planning on meeting at The Good Egg at Park Central Mall (3110 N Central) for breakfast at 8:30 or so. We can either hop the lightrail downtown, which will take us within about a 1/2 mile walk to the Courthouse [the Courthouse to the Capital is about a mile]; or we can carpool to one of the garages.

The weather is expected to be mostly sunny and mid-80s, so light clothing, hats, sunscreen, sunglasses and water (and comfortable shoes!) would be a good idea!

    * I'll be sending my phone number to attendees later this week

So I am not clear on the march's goal? Equality for all?...is there something we want legislators to change specifically or is this about marriage equality?

I have a feeling some of it will be sort of a 'victory lap' though, and also to motivate the base during an election year.
