Amy (aka The Fabulous One) is an acquaintance of mine, social media expert, gal about town and local comedienne, is putting this on. Her story:
"Amy Donohue (that’s me!) saw a tweet one night in January 2011. A friend’s mom had just agreed to be put on the kidney donor list, as her kidney disease was getting worse every year. Amy saw the tweet and responded “I’ll do it. I’ll donate my kidney. What do I have to do?”
During the testing process, Amy lost her job, got a new one, met amazing people in the community, and learned about life and love.
So, it’s a documentary about a kidney donor on a cross-country trip. Her goal? To meet as many other donors as she can, tell their stories, and bring awareness to live organ donation. Relationships were formed via Social Media. It’s also how she lost her kidney.
By creating more awareness with this film on living donation, she hopes to inspire and motivate others to do the same. The more people see healthy living donors, the less fear there will be in donating.
I am making a documentary about my kidney donation. In May 2013, I will be driving cross-country to meet other organ donors who I met through Social Media. I have an amazingly talented friend, James Pietragallo, who is going with me to film, direct & edit it. He's made independent films for years and is extremely talented and easy to work with.
I put together a comedy show of the BEST comedians in the Valley. I have been in this scene for ten years and can truly attest to the talent that will be performing this weekend. I am humbled to call them friends and even more humbled that I barely had to ask them to do this.
You will NEVER see lineups like this. Ever. These are all top-notch people with a couple of selected up-and-coming comedians as well.
Speakeasy Comedy Lounge is a great room for local comedy. They serve Mexican food and there's a full bar there as well. They are donating the room to me to hold this fundraiser."
$10 to get in.
* Just an aside: I've seen Amys' routine, definitely not G Rated!
