As a fellow mom, I'm totally up for this. My husband is involved in another meetup group where they had a family event (spouses and kids/grandkids welcome) and it was a lot of fun. Maybe we could try something like that? The age diversity of this group is one of the things I love about it, so I wouldn't necessarily want to create a split off group (plus, that costs money, right?) but maybe we could have an occasional kid-friendly event in addition to the regular monthly dinners so those with kids can get in on the fun without having to hire a babysitter--especially now that the weather is starting to cool and soon we'll be able to do things outside without getting heatstroke! Picnic anyone?

Brooke

I would also be very interested in getting together with other liberal moms.  I also like the idea of continuing to have adult-only get-togethers since what mom doesn't need one of those once in a while?  I think that it is very easy to extend our activities in such a way that everyone could find something that would appeal to them.  By the way, I need a real good vent session since my kids' school didn't show the President's address yesterday!  That could be a fun activity for a group with kids; find a way to watch a re-broadcast of his speech.  Anyone know how to get a hold of the instructional materials since we didn't get those either?

Those are just my thoughts.  Thanks for letting me share.

I would be interested in a meet-up group for liberal ladies with kids, especially if we had events that include activities for the children. I've been wanting to do a meet-up with the liberal ladies for awhile, but weekday evenings don't usually work for me. And I'd love to meet women in the area who have children and share my political perspectives. The mother of one of my daughter's friends apparently didn't appreciate that my child told her kid "John McCain is yucky!"

Thanks for organizing our group, Michelle! If there is enough interest in a "liberal moms sub-group," I could possibly help as an assistant organizer.

Best, Kristina

I know its probably just me, but I really don't want our group divided up and categorized. There are a core group of ladies that like to meet together. Why set up a special group for those with kids, or the younger folk - its these folk that give older and kidless folk a different perspective.

A picnic or game night seems fine. But these groups just seem like they will dilute the group we already have.

Hello, Ladies.

A few weeks ago I accepted the post of Organizer of the Liberal Ladies Meetup group. I wanted to take a moment to formally say ?Hello,? as well as present a few ideas to the group.

As of today, we have 122 members. On average, approximately 10 ? 16 members attend our meetups. I want us to grow and become more inclusive. I want to ?spread the liberalism? across the Valley.

Wouldn?t it be great for liberal ladies from Peoria to Queen Creek and Avondale to Apache Junction to have the opportunity to share in friendship, meaningful discussions and other activities? We will certainly continue to meet in the East Valley, but we cannot forget we live in a large city. It?s more than 50 miles one way from the I-17 and Peoria exit to the intersection of the 202 and the 60 freeways. By meeting in one part of the Valley, we are unintentionally restricting others from participating with ease.

I would also like to draw in the 20 ? 30 something crowd. One idea would be to have ?Liberal Ladies with Children? and/or ?X/Y Generation Liberal Ladies? meetups. We could also occasionally include spouses or significant others with a potluck at the park, or meet for an evening of fun and games with like-minded thinkers.

In order to grow our base effectively, I am seeking Assistant Organizers to host new meetups in valley locations (like Scottsdale, Peoria, West Valley, etc) and/or to host meetups for specific interest or age groups (like Liberal Ladies with Children, X-generation Liberal Ladies, Liberal Lady Readers, etc). This is not as hard as it may sound! smile For dinners and lunches, you call the restaurant in advance and ask if you can make a reservation for 10 ? 15 (or the applicable number). Then go into Meetup and set up the event. Select ?email all members? to announce the meetup. That?s it! And the planning is even easier if you choose to always meet at the same location or meet at a park while the kids play. As a Liberal Lady Assistant Organizer you control the number of meetups you plan and the amount of time you want to put into planning them. If you are interested in becoming an Assistant Organizer, contact me.

If you like the meetup the way it was, you are in luck! We are going to continue meeting in the same part of town we have in the past. We will have the same type of meetups we have enjoyed in the past. The group will continue its focus on liberal women forging friendships with other liberal women. These are just a few ideas to include MORE women.

Sometimes it is lonely being an open-minded liberal in a largely Republican state. Let?s reach out to other liberal ladies in our area and help them realize they are not alone.

Excited to be your new Organizer,

Michelle
