Backyard Tour & Ted Drewes

I happened to get an announcement from the Mayor’s office about this and thought it sounded cool. If you are into gardening, do it yourself projects, sustainability, or just like to be nosey and look at other peoples properties (I fall into the “all of above” category) you might enjoy this.

Basically, this is a self-guided tour of different backyards throughout the city and county in which the homeowners have done something unique to turn their space into something more livable, more productive, and / or sustainable in some way. There are about 40 homes on the tour and they are scattered but you can go to http://sustainablebackyardtour.com to find descriptions of the yards and where you can pick up printed listings for all. From there, you can plan your own tour based on your interest. Note: from the home page click on “tour” for info.

The tour is FREE and if you go on the website you can register for some free prizes they are giving away. It’s a great way to get some exercise, enjoy the outdoors, tour with some friends, and maybe pick up an idea or two. Touring times are from 11:00am to 4:00pm.

After burning off some calories it might be time to replenish J. Therefore, we are going to meet at the Ted Drewes on Chippewa at 4:30. It will be a good time to mingle and maybe share some of what was seen. Sure, I know it is right before dinner time but there is no law saying you can’t have dessert first J.

I know we will be scattered but it would be nice to see who is going so please rsvp.

Not quite what I expected. Several addresses I visited had no signs for the tour, were not open from the front yard or the back, didn't see anyone around.

I hope everyone got their info and / or booklet. Also hope it does not rain. There is no particular starting point. Call me [masked] with any questions or if you want to go with us. Otherwise, see you at Ted Drewes.

I will probably visit just some of the South City and County addresses and Ted Drews of course.

I would love to join you all but I picked up an extra shift at work! Sounds like fun to me.

This sounds like something I would really like, however, I will be out of town that weekend. Enjoy!

This sounds like fun- but the map is the Missouri Venture Forum? That right?

I did this tour last year and it was great. I found that there are simply too many houses spread out over the city to visit in one day. Would anyone want to meet at one of the locations and tour some of the houses together? Of course we'd end up at Ted Drewe's, a brilliant way to end the day.
