It’s time to head back to the track. Join us as we make our annual pilgrimage to Fairmount for a night of horse racing and fun at their weekly Party at the Park. It’s $13.00 and includes a huge buffett and live music, $2.00 pricing on Bud and Bud Light, well drinks, and house wine. It’s also a chance to win a few bucks if you are feeling lucky. We have had a few good winners before. Personally, the best I have done is win enough to break even for the night of fun but I don’t know diddly about horses or betting on them. You are not obligated to bet. It is still a fun evening to watch the races and feel the excitement plus mingle with fellow members. As an organizer, I like planning it because it also provides a night where I don’t have to worry about weather. If it is hot, you can stay in the party room which provides great viewing of the action and plenty of tv monitors. If it is nice outside there is a large patio area where you can hang out and be very close to the action. The music and dancing are just additional throw-ins. The poor bands (who are usually pretty good) have to stop and start a lot because of the race announcements but there is a dance floor in case you feel like shaking a leg. Last year it was our own member Jim who made his way through the aisle and led quite a following to the dance floor for the Cupid shuffle. It was a riot (you had to be there). If you never have been or wonder what it’s like “at the track”, this is a perfect opportunity to check it out.
Now the scoop….The races start at 7:30pm. The doors open at 6:00pm and yes, there will be a line. It adds to the fun (at least for me) to watch people making the mad dash for the buffett line. There are no reserved seating sections so we will do the tables and chair grab the best we can. I will have the table tents. The area is pretty big but it is not too hard to find people. There is no dress code. Jeans or shorts are fine.
Getting there is a bit of a trek for many but don’t let that deter you. It is mainly Inter-state driving and the track is right by an exit off of 255 in Illinois, close to Collinsville. We have had many carpool in the past and that has seemed to work out great. Just post it in the comments.
So we hope you will join us. It will be a fun evening. Oh, did I mention they usually have attendance prizes they give out?
