You may have heard that this week Miller Farms Dairy had its permits suspended. This was not due to an issue with the milk, but rather a technicality involving laws about drop points. He is actively working on resolving this issue as soon as possible, and we can help him.
As Janet had said, regardless of where you get your milk from – this affects us all. In addition to the information Bea sent out about how and why to support HB 46, we can immediately help Mr. Miller as he tries to get his permits reinstated. If HB 46 passes, it would completely eliminate the issue that caused this suspension. I hope that we all, please, contact our representatives to let them know our support of HB 46, HB 970 and HB 910.
I have spoken with Mr. Miller and he said he would be very grateful for any of our help and suggested the following as the most useful way to assist. To immediately help this small raw milk farmer, we can contact three people right now: the Milk/Dairy section of the Texas Dept. of State Health Services, and the Senator and Representative from Mr. Miller's area. Senator Carlos Uresti and Representative Harvey Hilderbran can be the necessary trigger to get the Health Department to reinstate the permits.
Please contact the following people and kindly ask that Mr. Miller's permits be reinstated. Let them know you support him and other raw milk dairy farmers as well as why access to good, clean raw milk is important to you. So far, the folks in both Sen. Uresti's and Rep. Hilderbran's offices have been very open and helpful, and said the more folks that contact them in support of the current situation with Mr. Miller as well as HB 46, HB 970 and HB 910 – the better.
Thank you all for anything you can do to help, because this does affect all of us, what we believe in and what we hold as important in our lives.
