SA Toll Party Alert
Dear Terri,

Ask Perry to VETO
HB 1573

>>$10 vehicle registration fee hike
only on Bexar County residents!
CALL Perry NOW at:
Citizen Hotline

This fee hike can be used to subsidize TOLL ROADS &
Nelson Wolff's unpopular street car system!

>> Also ask Perry to
VETO SB 1730 that would sell Loop 1604 to a
foreign toll operator that can charge 75 cents a mile in TOLLS
(It's a long-shot since he's for it, but he needs to feel the heat on this!)
* Governor Perry said he would NOT support ANY fee hikes. Remind him of his promise and hold him to it.
-- Perry has until Sunday, June 16, (Father's Day), to VETO bills or they will become LAW.
* Unlike the other local fee hike bills, HB 1573 is the ONLY ONE that does NOT require voter approval!

* It goes directly to fund the Alamo RMA, the local toll authority, so it will undoubtedly be used to SUBSIDIZE toll roads!

* The RMA can also operate transit and RAIL projects, including street cars.
What happened?
We opposed this bill, but Sen. Donna Campbell, with the help of local activist Jeff Judson, amended the bill to keep the ATD Board from getting access to the funds thinking it would stop them from using it to build the street car.

However, the RMA can operate a street car as well. So she voted for a tax hike that can go to fund both toll roads (a DOUBLE TAX) and street cars when she ran against BOTH.
>> Bill to convert FREE roads to TOLL roads PASSED. SB 1029 passed despite your opposition!

>> Bill to sell-off Loop 1604 to foreign toll company, SB 1730, PASSED.

Postcards from the lege...
The regular 83rd session of the legislature ended on Memorial Day.
Governor Perry immediately called a special session on re-districting. The Governor alone decides the issues that can be brought up during a special session.

He's expected to add more subjects to the "call" -- possibly transportation since only one-eighth of the needed funding for roads was allocated.

Sen. Robert Nichols and Tommy Willliams, two pro-toll bad guys, are already hatching a plan to raid oil & gas severance taxes (if Perry adds roads to the 'call') to fund roads rather than allocate the existing road taxes we already pay to roads! Read more here.

--If you can't afford to pay 50 cents a mile to get to work, you need to be at this hearing!
