Fwd: Libertyville Social Tennis Club Mailing List Daily Digest

 Hi

I am very new to the group/meet-up (just joined a couple weeks ago and played once) and have a couple of thoughts:

a) I didn't even realize there is a subscription fee to create a meetup.....so thank you Brett for establishing the account and I am more than willing to contribute money as suggested to help split the costs among the other members to help keep it going.   I wish I would have found this group earlier as I have literally gone years in playing fun, competitive tennis -especially since I don't belong to a tennis club and only played outdoors a few times a year as most of my friends/colleagues either don't play, have the time, etc....

b) I would have never have found this group if it wasn't something that came up in a google search that connected me to meetup.com  (i.e. I wouldn't have found it in facebook, craigslist , etc)....if others are like me....w/o this meetup group, it will likely diminish in numbers and die as new members will not add to the flavor of who plays and current members might lessen in size/frequency of attendance as email is a difficult way to stay in the loop as life for all of us changes from time to time allowing us to play more or less depending on what else consumes our time........

c) trying to understand interest of who can play on a given date is key in seeing the upcoming meetings, etc....would think that emails would be a frustrating way to coordinate the interest of a group of people of who is or isn't able to play...not to mention - some people might drive a good distance to find out that no one came or was going to come later, etc.....knowing that 4, 5 or 10 people can give comfort that you have some good tennis ahead

d) would love to play on those clay courts (never have) at Ed's complex....having an open meeting invite on meetup.com with this as a facility with an open date would be a benefit to current members as well as having others join - Ed, I hope you can schedule date(s) here so we all can play there in the future

Perhaps we can start collecting $ at each of the upcoming outings for those that are interested (even if it means driving by and dropping it off) ....would have to think we could 12 members that would contribute the $20.......planning on playing Saturday.....who can I give my donation to?

Thanks

Kevin

Brett,
Why do we need meetup.com?  It sounds like your time, not just cost are concerns to look elsewhere.
Can't one scheduler just schedule the tennis group at her/his location via an email distribution list?
I offer to schedule meetings at my Lake County complex that has 4 clay courts and 6 concrete.

thanks,ed

Hi All,

Firstly, thanks a lot to all of you joining this club and I hope you are enjoying it a lot. Unfortunately for me, it seems with a very busy job and 2 young kids, my time availability is very low and have not been out to hit much at all.

I can continue the subscription on meetup, but would like to answer some small $$ contributions from the members to cover the monthly cost ($20) on meetup.com. Otherwise, I would like to request someone else take over
the monthly
subscription on meetup and organize with the members how the $$ will be sorted out to make it fair. I definitely don't want to profit from this, but moving forward would like either me or another person who is the official organizer to not have to pay all the costs out of their own pocket.

Please let me know what you think.

Thanks.
Brett

Hi Brett,

Thank you for setting this up at the first place. I have been truly enjoying playing tennis with the group and meeting new players in the area. I hope the group will continue. I will share the cost.

Meetup is convenient to not only schedule new meetings and notify people of changes etc, but also to attract new members. We have new people sign up quite regularly by seeing it on meetup.

So, i'll leave it up to those that attend the most to help decide what they want to do.

thanks.

Brett,
As for "attracting new members", i suggest using free viable alternatives like Facebook and ads on Craigslist.
For the majority of people that have already signed up, email already does the job to schedule new meetings and notify people of changes.
If you cannot find a regular meetup attendee who wants to cover the $20/month cost of the meetup.com website, i really think you should consider my idea to keep the social tennis club going here in Lake County.
regards,ed
