50's, 60's and 70's Music Trivia

Welcome to our Very First Life Begins at 40 Music Trivia Event!!

Cool Tunes and Interesting Facts from the 50s, 60s and 70s.

We know that many of our members love and are quite knowledgeable about music. On Wednesday, June 19th at 7:30 PM we want to give you a chance to test your music knowledge in a fun, entertaining, non-pressurized and friendly competition.

Let's begin to gather after work on the 2nd floor of The Madison Avenue Pub at 6:00 PM. This will give everyone a chance to mix, mingle and socialize a bit before we start.

The Madison Avenue Pub is being quite generous with their space, so let's do the best we can to support them by ordering an entrée, an appetizer, drinks, or any combination of the three!! We'll begin the 50's, 60's, 70's music trivia at 7:30 PM, so don't be late!!

Okay, here's how it's going to work...

We will form teams of 3 or 4 people and together you will first try to guess a few great tunes from the 50s, 60s and 70s. The second part of the game will consist of trivia questions about all kinds of interesting, unusual and surprising facts and events about various aspects of the music industry.

After round one is completed, we will award points to the top teams and then we’ll take a little break.

After the break we'll switch things up a bit and everyone will be placed into brand new teams. The idea is to get to know as many of your fellow group members as possible. So, for round two you will be with 2 or 3 completely new team members. Of course, points will again be awarded for the 2nd round as well. At the end of round 2, we will add up all the points from both rounds and the 3-4 people with the highest scores will win a free drink or dessert of their choice.

It’s going to be a lot of fun and hey, you might actually even learn a few things along the way. We hope that many of you will come out and participate in this friendly competition. So hit the books, dust off your record player and bone up on all those hits of the past.

We’re looking forward to welcoming you to our first music trivia event. If you enjoy music trivia, we may even make this a regular thing.

There's a $5 meetup fee for this event.

The Madison Avenue Pub is conveniently located downtown near the corner of Spadina & Bloor. If you're taking the Bloor/Danforth subway, get off at Spadina Station. When you exit the station, turn left on Spadina, left on Bloor and one more left at Madison Ave. If you're driving, there's a parking lot ever so slightly north of Spadina Stn. on Spadina Avenue.

We look forward to seeing you there!!

btw. If you guys had fun last night - and you obviously like music - Just imagine how much fun you would have partying with Alex and me and a whole bunch of other members, on our amazing 2-day trip to the 1000 islands. We have a fabulous cruise built into the trip, complete with a top-notch live band, playing a tribute to Motown. We still have a few spaces left on the trip. We would love it if you could come along. I just know that we will have an amazing time!

Thank you so much for your kind comments, Debra. Yes, there was definitely a fair amount of work involved in putting the whole thing together. But it was all worth it to bring a fun and entertaining evening to our members. Thanks for participating.

Yup, the 50s, 60s and 70s definitely produced some of the best music ever! The proof of the quality of these tunes is that they are still being played today, so many years later. I am glad you enjoyed the evening and thanks for participating. Suzanne.

A huge THANK YOU to all you wonderful people who participated in last night's music trivia event. I had an absolutely amazing time "torturing" you with all these questions. I think it went quite well and it looked like everybody was having a good time. Not bad for our very first time. There were lots of laughs and interesting discussions. I think I probably said this before - but it's worth repeating "We must have the greatest bunch of people in our meetup group - period!" A special thanks for your enthusiasm and for even singing along to some of the tunes. And - oh yeah - thanks for putting up with my nasty Swiss accent. (Sorry!) Fortunately, I let the music do most of the talking. LOL! Anyway, I hope you had at least as much fun as I did. And hopefully we can do this again sometime. Everybody did a great job with all those questions. I was very impressed with the level of knowledge. Congrats again to the big winners of last night: Eric, Jacqui and Roman.

I'm so sorry, Alex - came home early from work feeling awful. Thought I might be okay for tonight if I I rested for a bit . . . but apparently fell really asleep. Just woke up now :-(

I am in the process of putting the finishing touches on the trivia questions. It's going to be lots of fun guys! And probably a little bit educational as well since I am planning on integrating lots of interesting facts and stats, etc. into the questions. There will be an interesting mix of 50s, 60s and 70s tunes from both sides of the Atlantic (USA, Canada, England, Europe...and possibly beyond...??) I look forward to an amazing evening with lots of good tunes and spending time with friends.

Hi, Alex! Is this actually starting at 6:00 or do we have a bit of time to get there?

    June 4, 2013

    • Alex S.

Hi Lynne, The actual trivia will begin at 7:30. We will begin gathering at 6:00 to have a bite to eat, and drink to support the venue. This will also give us a chance to socialize a bit before we begin the music trivia.
