Dive Against Debris Cleanup

As divers, we know how important our waters are and, unfortunately, how much trash gets dumped in them. So join us in helping Tampa Bay Green Consortium with their first “Dive Against Debris” Dive Cleanup this season. Long-time members Rob and April Gricks have graciously stepped forward to serve as Life Underwater's event hosts.

Like all of dive cleanups, TBGC needs volunteer divers, kayaks/canoes, safety observers, and data collectors.

The clean-up will be 8 a.m. to noon with the Safety Brief held at 8:30 a.m.

Please note per TBGC:  All divers must be Advanced Open Water certified with at least 15 open water dives in their logbook.  You will need to bring your own gear to participate.  There are a couple of shops that are volunteering gear and tanks for those that need it.  Volunteers will receive those details from TBGC when they register to help.

To volunteer for this event please send an e-mail with your name, contact info, and what position you are volunteering for to [masked] and be sure to fill out the volunteer form on their website.

Again, thank you for all of your continued support and for helping keep our waters clean!

Last time, people were split into groups. But, then, there were only about 10 divers last time. I think there are about 30-35 divers this time. TBGC folks will take care of things.

Can we go with just the open water cert.?

    March 11, 2014

    • Rob G.

I really don't know. The group supporting this was stating Advanced, but based off of other posts such as Paige's, 15 logged dives.

    March 11, 2014

    • Rob G.

I am assuming the fishing pier, but I did send an email requesting info.

Anyone know what the water temp might be at Ft. Desoto?

    March 2, 2014

  • San Man O.

is there a car pool leaving from tampa and do we need to bring our own tanks and stuff

    February 24, 2014

    • Debbie

While there is no official carpool arranged, we absolutely encourage folks to carpool. So throw out a suggested meetup place in Tampa to see if anyone else wants to meet there and carpool over.
You will need to bring all of your own equipment. TBGC will not be providing any equipment.

I helped with this clean-up about 6 months ago. Lot of fun. You only need one tank. We got t-shirts last time. And we also got a park pass for the day. Double check with TBGC on specifics. I believe there are a couple of dive shops providing free tanks (I think).

I signed up on their website to volunteer along with my husband also! This will be our first meet up with this group too. I would assume we show up with all our own gear and air right?

    1 · February 22, 2014

    • Debbie

Paige - yes - you'll need to provide your own gear and tanks. Please make sure to sign up with TBGC so they can contact you with any relevant info.

      February 23, 2014

  • April G.

This is a great event and awesome way to kickoff the 2014 diving season. So grab your gear, get a tank of air, and join us! If you have a Life Underwater t-shirt we encourage you to wear it so we can round everyone up. If you don't have a shirt and want one please contact Alex or Debbie! Thank you for your support and let's go diving!!!!

    February 22, 2014

  • Rob G.

Another Life Underwater member, Sharon Wilkerson forwarded a link for this event, 2014 Great American Cleanup. Go to TampaBayGreenConsortium.org and look for the event or email Volunteer@TampaBayGreenConsortium to volunteer. I recommend both and let them know you want to volunteer as a diver.
