Dear Light Clubbers,
The next LIGHT CLUB is on!
In this Light Club, I encourage all of you to bring your cameras.
I will talk about how the aperture, time and shutter work, how they are related to each other and what different kinds of effects you can achieve by knowing about them. That means we will actually take some pictures on spot, so you can see the difference.
I will also talk about the difference of file formats and the different camera programs you have in your camera why I would encourage you not to use them
.
I gave out the first official Light Club assignment at the last meet up!
That means this Light Club will be full of beautiful photos taken and shown by courageous Light Clubbers.
So if you are interested how that will look like and want to know, if that would be something you could love, too, come by and join us stalking light, talking about photography and pictures and particpate with questions, opinions and laughs.
And of course you will get your next assignment!
I want to clarify the fee structure.
I talked to a friend of mine, who is a veteran as an organizer of a meet up group. I tried to figure out the fairest way I could make this workshop work for all. Still, I appreciate any suggestions you would like to make.
Here is what I think should be good for all:
- First Light Club you attend is free! It's the best way to figure out for yourself if you like it or not.
- If you like to continue, the monthly fee for Light Club is $75. No matter if we meet once or twice.
- For Students it's 33% off the monthly charge, which means students only pay $50 each month.
- The fee includes any further events like exhibitions, documentaries or photographer talks.
- It also includes support via e-mail or skype.
I hope I could clear the confusion a bit and I hope that works out for everyone.
It will be great and I'm looking forward to see you!
- Kai
I'm sorry about that. Since I am German and so more into football and not handegg (aka american football), I didn't know that :).
The decision to chose that Sunday was made by the Lightclubbers of the last meet up, since it seemed to work for all of them.
No worries. There's no need to change it. If the other members decided on that day, please don't change it for me. I'll make the next meeting. "Handegg" season will be over by then.
Hi, Kai....Thank you for everything which is very clear and fair. Hope to see you next time
Looking forward to the next meeting! I'm not a football fan myself but could do Saturday instead of Sunday if that was better for others. Let us know...Thanks!
Hi Kai, I very much enjoyed our last session. See you next Sunday! (I can't make it on Saturday).
Don't worry. It will stay on Sunday! Looking forward to see your images.. :)
hi kai,
i love the sound of this group and am looking forward to joining. i'm familiar with aperture/shutter relationship, having always shot manual. would it be best for me to join the group at a later date? how advanced do you anticipate the gatherings getting? i'm primarily interested in general lighting (studio and natural) and lighting systems (zone), photojournalism, portraiture, photo processing and printing, but also would just like to have a group to learn and shoot with.
Hi Alexis,
of course this is totally up to you. In the last meetup the lightclubbers wanted to know a bit more of the technical aspect of the camera for a better understanding. I think it would be great to have you there aswell as an experienced photographer who can maybe answer some questions and contribute. I will always have a mixture of basic and advanced knowledge in Light Club. It's the best way to learn. I will always get into lighting, photojournalism, portraiture and proecessing.
Further more, it is important to me that you get the most out of Light Club. That means I want you to suggest topics you want to know more about. Everyone will always contribute to Light Club by showing their homework assignment. So the most important thing wil always play a major role in Light Club: the shooting.
So feel free to stop by and take a look. Your first Light Club is free. See if you feel comfortable and if you like it. In this meet up, the first homework assignments will be shown.
So this will be very interesting, no matter how experienced you are!
Looking forward to see you there.
- Kai
Fantastic! Thank you so much for the thorough response. I am very excited to join and meet you all on Sunday!
@Kai, do you have a blog/website to show your portfolios? Want to put some professional photography sites in my blogroll:)
Hi Yuyu, I do have a website that I shamefully don't update as often as I should. It's www.kainedden.de.
And you can become a "fan" of my facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/?ref=logo#!/pages/wwwKAINEDDENde/...![]()

So sorry stuck in Brooklyn... Will you be having another one of these? I have a new camera and would love to learn more about how I can maximize its uses. Thanks!
Hi Natalie, of course there will be more meet ups. Light Club will continue! You can always bring your camera and ask questions aside from the main subject.
Log in to Meetup with your Facebook account.
That's Superbowl Sunday. The Giants are playing for the championship. I can't make it.
