The Commuter Book Club reads "Sweet Tooth"

Share the love of a good read - the kind of book that makes Metro stops and miles fly by, but doesn’t take six weeks to finish.

Then get together for coffee and snacks with other DMV Commuters, and talk about the book - or how many stops you missed while reading.

And if you’re too busy to meet up in person, join us on twitter instead. @APLNico will live tweet the conversation, using the hashtag #APLrideread.

For April we're reading "Sweet Tooth" by Ian McEwan.

"Recruited into MI5 against a backdrop of the Cold War in 1972, Cambridge student Serena Frome, a compulsive reader, is assigned to infiltrate the literary circle of a promising young writer whose politics align with those of the government, a situation that is compromised when she falls in love with him."

I don't know if this will change anyone's mind about Sweet Tooth, but I found this review (by Kate Roiphe) of the novel really illuminating ... it helped me appreciate what McEwan was doing with his "meta-fictional" approach. http://www.slate.com/articles/double_x/roiphe/2012/11/ian_mcewan_s_sweet_tooth_sexual_politics_in_novel_form.html

So sorry to miss this (I actually finished the book--a rarity for me and anything Ian McEwan...), but I ended up with a ticket to the baseball game tomorrow night. Hope you all have a great time!

I haven't started it yet! I probably should, given that it's pretty lengthy...

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
