Affiliated with The Institute for American Indian Studies in Washington, CT, this group works on an active excavation every Sunday (weather permitting) in the Litchfield Hills during "dig season". From late fall through early spring, we offer lectures & have meetings at the IAIS and/or work on cataloging artifacts found in the prior year's excavation. A great group to be involved with if you're interested in Connecticut's indigenous peoples, history, prehistory, or archaeology.

"Seems like something I would love to do, amateur historian who would love a career involved in the field one day"

"Best ways to connect you to the dig... To those who've expressed interest in coming out to the field, I apologize for not figuring out how to hook you up with the site earlier, but we're still excavating for about another 6 weeks this season...."

"I love the search and the gathering of all knowledge. The idea of finding something from someone in the past makes me appreciate the present. I have never studied the past, nor would I even know where to start. However I would like to learn more."

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
