Explore the Art & Appetite Exhibit @ The Art Institute

The Art Institute's Art and Appetite: American Painting, Culture and Cuisine is a curated collection of paintings, sculptures and memorabilia from the  18th, 19th, and 20th centuries that interprets America's historical relationship with food and dining. The exhibit began November 12th and runs through January 27th, 2014.

The Institute has also made available contemporary recipe contributions from top culinary talent in Chicago. Their recipes and bios make for interesting reading and certainly, tasty meals. I'd recommend checking out their site

Every Thursday in December the Art Institute will offer a 12 crs amuse-bouche serving in addition to the exhibit. The servings start at 5 and cost $66 for couples and $38 for individuals.

Provided there is interest, we could plan a Meetup to view the exhibit and go have dinner, should we not want to participate in the amuse-bouche serving.

How much is it to see the exhibit

Assuming you can prove Illinois residency, I think it's free when we're going.

Tesori is an Italian restaurant that has beckoned to me for years. Our attendance at the Exhibition seems the perfect time to check it out. There are less expensive options close to AI, but I thought this place fitting as our evening will center around the appreciation of the appetite.

Dinner isn't mandatory, but please leave a comment as to your intentions so we can get a head count for the meal.

The entree menu looks a little pricey, however, Tesori has pizzas and other solid appetizer choices that may be shared more economically. Any objections or suggestions may be noted below. Tesori says 8pm is a desirable and easy time to enjoy a dinner.

I love this idea - I have a membership so I get in free and can have a guest get in free too if someone needs a pass in.

Great perk... we're covered if we go on a Thursday but Ill trade you an AI guest pass for an MSI pass... and I have yet to see the smart house.

I usually work till 6 or 6:30 and will take a train, so will 7 pm be too late to meet up?

    November 24, 2013

Beth - Ill consider moving the meet time to 6:30. As far as the exhibit goes, you might want to consider a text buddy who'll be there to let you know exactly where we are and how much longer we will be. I'll also be choosing a venue for dinner close by, and of course you're welcome to show up for that if you miss us at the Museum.

Well we have interest now... looks like it's time to pick a date. Every Thursday from 5pm to 8pm the Art Institute is free admission for all Illinois residents. I'm free this Thursday, which is a bit short notice or we hold it over till December 5th. Those are my first two suggestions. Regular priced admission is $23.00. Im also willing to scout a foodie worthy spot to eat dinner in the area after the exhibit.
