Whatcha doing this weekend?

This weekend is a feast for Chicago foodies!   Not only can you audition for Anthony Bourdain and Nigella Lawson's new cooking competition show on Saturday at The Centered Chef (go to our Meetup site at  to sign up  -- rumor has it that Tony himself will be heading up the auditions!) but you can also grab your friends and get your grub on at the new and improved Taste of Chicago in Grant Park all weekend.  Mayor Emmanuel has streamlined the vendors and added some upscale, ticketed events for hardcore foodies like us, so this may be Chicago's best Taste yet!

But wait -- there's more!  Salut! found the following events for you:

·        Get your hands dirty and share in the harvest when you volunteer at the Slow Food Chicago preSERVE Community Garden in North Lawndale on Saturday from 10am to noon.  Dress comfy, bring your work gloves and spend a couple of hours with some really cool people tending this important volunteer garden.  RSVP to [address removed].

·        Get your French on at the Bastille Day celebration at the all-indoor Chicago French Market.  Enjoy free food samples and live entertainment as you browse vendors offering fresh, organic and/or ethnic food specialties from around the world.

·        Get chummy with celebrity chefs Rick Bayless and Takashi Yakahashi at the Macy's State Street location.  They're hosting live cooking demonstrations and offering tastings of their favorite dishes on Saturday at noon as a benefit for Common Threads.  Tickets are $10, but include a $10 gift card to Macy's, so they're actually FREE:  Thanks to new Salut! member Marleisse for the heads up on this cool event!

So savor Chicago this weekend, and be sure to email me at [address removed] if you have a great culinary adventure to share with the group.
